The EU. There are now so many 'laws' being imposed upon us on a daily basis by unelected eurocrats, it is literally impossible to keep up with them all. Fact.
Just one unpleasant EU fact amongst many. The subject needs a thread of its own really.
Indeed it does.
I suppose proper representative democracy would have you voting for more than just MP's, you'd vote for judges, district police chiefs (sheriffs I suppose) and you'd get to vote for council members too etc.
There would also be no such thing as a house of lords or a senate or whatever. There should also only be 1 system of courts imho and there should be a limit on how many f**king lawyers there can be as MP's.
There should also be no charge or cost imposed on running to be an MP other than your own advertising and no group associated with picking 'nominees' etc.
The levels of corruption in place are quite evident.
The worst one of all is royal prerogative, royalty ought to have sod all power whatsoever.
The present system represents artificial group entities, churches, charities, unions, corporations etc etc.
It does NOT represent individuals, only a libertarian party would be interested in such a thing and ofc the present system with its financial penalties for failing to get votes etc only serves to undermine such real choice and therefore imho defeats the whole object of having democracy in the first place because such small parties cannot ever possibly get a candidate to cover all areas.
Proportional rep doesn't solve the problem either, Irelands been using it (or should I say ABusing it) for quite some time.
The candidates end up getting piles of votes and are then allowed to add their votes to their running mates or whoever they like which makes candidates into supervoters. Its a bloody joke. Rigged all the way, always has been and always will be.
The only way to get what you really want as an individual now is to get educated, skilled up and self employed and off grid as much as possible, paying as little tax as possible and participating as little as possible and encouraging as many others to do the same.
Sure, it'll probably not make a dent but at least you tried and did the right ethical thing. Libertarianism isn't 'politics' to me, its a way of living your life, a state of mind. There is no room for compromise with it.
