MP: George Galloway is embroiled in a fresh row for calling a Twitter user a 'window-licker'
George Galloway is being paid almost £80,000 a year by a television station linked to Syria and Iran, it emerged yesterday.
The Respect Party MP presents a fortnightly programme on the Lebanon-based Al Mayadeen – a rival to Al Jazeera. He earns £3,000 per episode.
The recently launched station has refused to reveal the identity of its financial backers. One industry figure said it was supported by Iran and a cousin of Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad, but the channel denied this, claiming it is ‘completely independent’ and funded by Arab businessmen.
The Times newspaper has reported that the channel’s head of news is married to a former adviser to Assad, and that its general manager was previously head of Al-Manar, the broadcaster affiliated to Hezbollah.
Mr Galloway, MP for Bradford West, insisted Al Mayadeen is ‘privately owned’, adding: ‘All I can say about [the owners] is ... they won’t be as disreputable as the owners of The Times.’
The anti-war politician has used his programme, A Free Word, to rail against the West’s support for the uprising in Syria. He has previously described Assad as ‘the last bastion of Arab dignity’.
In a separate controversy, Mr Galloway is facing calls for his resignation after insulting a Twitter user with a pejorative term for a disabled person days before the start of the Paralympics.
He angered users on the social networking site after using the derogatory term 'window-licker' on his page.

He posted the offensive comment in a spat with a fan of Glaswegian football club Rangers, as he taunted the supoprter.
The MP posted the comment on Sunday when he tweeted to @Hawfa, whose name on the site is Craig Dickson,: 'you badly need medical help son. Will decent Rangers fans please substitute this windae-licker … '
The tweet which was visible to 90,000 of his followers on the social networking site drew criticism from other users.

One user ‏@x__tracy__x wrote: 'It's bad when MP use disability hate term "window licker" especially as he is MP in #bradford high disability here @georgegalloway #georgeout.'
User @DaveMorgan25 said: 'Yet another group insulted by @georgegalloway - this time the disabled' and @Skipjack451 wrote: 'I wonder what the disabled members of your constituency will make of your use of the slur 'window licker'? You're a disaster.'
'I know people who've lost their job for calling disabled people window lickers ur a dam disgrace using that phrase' wrote @dukesy12.
As @Hawfa's tweets are private, it was unclear what conversation the insult stemmed from, and his response.
The term was voted third most offensive that could be used relating to disability in a poll run for the BBC's Ouch! disability talk show in 2003.
Dan Scorer, senior campaigns and policy manager at the learning disability charity Mencap told the Guardian: 'We are appalled that George Galloway, a member of parliament, has used this unacceptable term of abuse, which is deeply offensive to disabled people. Hate crime and bullying are a daily reality for many disabled people and the use of language like this only furthers hostility and violence. We call on him to apologise immediately.'
Last week Galloway was attacked by the leader of his own party over a controversial claim that a rape allegation against WikiLeaks campaigner Julian Assange amounted to no more than bad ‘sexual etiquette’.

Last week Galloway said the rape allegation against WikiLeaks campaigner Julian Assange amounted to no more than bad 'sexual etiquette'
Respect Party leader Salma Yaqoob branded Mr Galloway’s comments as ‘deeply disappointing and wrong’ as the Bradford West MP faced growing criticism of his remarks.
The woman at the centre of the allegation, who is a WikiLeaks supporter, told police she had consensual sex with Assange in August 2010 but woke the following morning to find he was having sex with her again, without her consent and without using a condom.
Mr Galloway said this could not be rape, as the pair had had sex and were ‘already in the sex game’.
He later defended his comments, saying he did not believe the accusations against Assange would have led to rape prosecution in Britain.
He said: ‘This has all the hallmarks of a set-up. What occurred is not rape as most people understand it.’
Mr Galloway faced a barrage of criticism after rape charities reacted with fury to his comments.
The Respect candidate in the upcoming Manchester Central by-election, Kate Hudson, echoed the criticism from her leader, writing on Twitter: ‘I am with you Salma.’
Businessman Lord Sugar wrote on the social networking site: ‘Galloway entitled to speak mind, like all off us. He has no factual detail of the alleged crime committed by Assange, so should shut his trap.’
He was recently sacked as a columnist on the Scottish political magazine Holyrood.
In 2008, two BBC radio presenters were suspended after using the term 'window licker' during a football phone-in show at BBC Southern Counties.
The action was taken after Ian Hart told a football fan to 'go and lick a window' in a row about Brighton and Hove Albion manager Micky Adams.
His comment was followed by Andrew Hawes urging 'any window lickers out there' to call the show.
Mr Hart, 44, later said he apologised 'unreservedly' for his comments.
'In that split second I didn't realise the severity of what I was saying,' he said.
'I now know it was grossly inappropriate.'

1) Galloway paid £80,000 a year for fortnightly He angered users on the social networking site after using the derogatory term 'window-licker' on his page.

As much as I hate the Fail, this is a good example of what damage can be caused by this man's antics.

1) Even though right wing political figures can appear on Fox News for a hefty salary, it seems that RT and this Al Mayadeen are beyond the pale and suddenly make every word a left winger says hypocrisy because, as we all know, wingnuts have a right to make money but lefties are whores.

So the Mail can go fuck itself with that one. :hahano:

Still. It is political idiocy to take the job: He should be too busy with his own constituency and party. He is evidently too greedy and/or arrogant to care about the effect on a wider political scale.

2) The Assange comment and backing was BOUND to be twisted because in the current climate absolutely any discussion of this case and the bizzare laws and irregular investigation involved is going to attract the smear of rape apologetics.

Why he didn't see this coming I do not know.

3) Politicians who continue to tweet are just fucking dumb.

ETA: I couldn't help noticing this shit from the page of that fucking shitrag that calls itself a paper

Looks like Galloway has started to open his mind a little bit regarding 9-11. A few years ago he was ridiculing people who believed 9 - 11 was an inside job.

not @ nirvana but something I just want to get off my chest
I have no problem with theories about 9-11.

Sure as shit, the official story is full of holes.

But making the event out to be the ultimate litmus test about how somebody is awake or how somebody is cointelpro is fucking pathetic. :hedbut:

His hearts in the right place, just like a lot of people.
Unfortunately he doesn't know jack shit about how the economy actually works.
So people like him and millions of others like him, just thnk that voting left wing and taxing the rich will somehow fix everything.

I got news for you. It won't.

The tax laws themselves need changing at their very core and the issuance of money needs changing GLOBALLY to be produced only by government treasury at 0% interest. Not with a bank for interest and not with a bank for charges. Banks should not be allowed to loan money they don't have. Simples.
They should WORK for their profits just like everyone else, you watch what happens to prices when such a thing happens.
Government then issues money into the economy on projects to improve everyones lives which is what they used to do.
They then only tax to remove money from supply to prevent inflation.

Politicians don't want that though, it requires brains and responsibility, something they quite clearly cannot handle, just like the millions of voters cannot handle, because they are fo rthe most part lazy useless ignorant idle bastards.

Painful? Sharp? Perhaps, but we're in this mess because things are not run the way they should be.
Corporate entities have more rights under law than human beings, BOTH the left and the right supports the status quo.
Unions will NOT change this, voting will NOT change this and tbh I'm sick to death of having to remind people of this.

Why do you all so easily forget and slip back in to the usual left v right crap?

You shouldn't have to worry about paying for welfare because you should be able to pay for your own welfare and even an entire families welfare with 1 mans skilled wages.
Do something about your situation, don't expect someone else to fix it all for you and encourage others to do the same, eventually God willing, there might be enough of us alike to have a real impact and we'll have EVOLUTION instead of revolution.

They won't because its a prevailing paradigm which is hundreds of years old.
Many people throughout their lives have struggled for 'change' but never seen it.
Plato started all this crap a long time ago and not much has changed since because people are easily deluded into thinking that reality comprises of money, govt and other such silly institutions. People are addicted to Plato's cave. They think the shadows on the wall are reality, when in fact reality can literally be anything the human race decides it to be.
It can be better but people CHOOSE to either accept the way things are or to merely demand a change in the shadows on the wall of the cave. They choose not to walk outside the cave and see reality.

The only 'how' this will change is for unadulterated in your face constant 24/7 liberal education.
Not only must schools teach that the entire paradigm is bullshit but the media would have to spew nothing but this for decades...quite literally. Millions of people in power of such institutions would have to do it.
I can't see them doing that when the current system produces slaves who maintain their way of life.
Catch 22.

To cover a whole generation of individuals who pass it on.
This is how they got it done in Switzerland. To this day it remains the only state to have ever successfully educated an entire nation of libertarians. They will fight to the death to defend what they have.
Their version of welfare is radically different than ours.

Your in Ireland right?

How do you feel about the future there, and what should be done to make it a better place?

Honest question here...

Honest question here...

Ireland is basically the same as the UK but without the dense population except in Dublin.

If I ran the place I would do the following:

Print banknotes using a govt treasury at 0% interest and swop euros for the new currency 1:1 at post offices and offer fee free banking at post offices but deny anyone more than 1 million in new currency (this will mean the end of the corporates in Ireland)
Drop income tax altogether along with the staff in govt for it as it will no longer be needed.
Drop road tax.
Drop tv licenses.
Drop dozens of other stupid and useless taxes.
Outlaw fractional reserve banking and call it what it is..fraud.
Put a simple sales tax on everything that is variable and dependant on inflation.
Remove shitloads of regulation and red tape and let the economy function.
Remove all welfare except in education.
Invest up to the nines in education and broadband and infrastructure and the jobs to supply it.
Tax the living crap out of foreign imports unless they also use a treasury based monetary system.
Tax land ownership on a sliding scale which gets ridiculously painful after 200+ acres and is only payable in new currency.
Leave the EU.
Allow for referendum on ANY issue (except where it conflicts with constitution) with more than 10,000 signatories on a petition.
Any spare land and housing to be immediately taken over by govt and handed out to those who need it, including inevitable land handed to govt with tax defaults on large land ownership.
Put the family unit on a pedestal to be revered and protected above all else.
Pay people to grow crops on their land and to generate power.
Allow anyone to bear arms provided they pass educational and marksmanship standards.
Apply all of the above to a constitution.

Sit back and wait.

Of course, shortly after doing all this you'll get invaded and taken over lol :)
