I know there are many more countries in the world that are getting destroyed (mainly through politics) but my allegency will be towards Scotland .

What about social and cultural boundaries? Or are you under the impression that they are imaginary also? It's all well and good having an idealistic view that everyone is the same the reality is that cultural differences exist and I fail to see how that is a bad thing. The way forward is to accept our differences and concentrate on the areas where we agree which tends to be the areas of most importance.
