WalMart shoppers in Attalla, Ala. might have been reminded not a good idea to steal from the WalMart Supercenter there.
You might be ordered to join the two thieves wearing a sign outside the store that said, "I am a thief, I stole from Wal-Mart."

Two people were ordered to wear the signs by Attalla City Judge Kenneth Robertson Jr. The two people were ordered to wear the signs for four hours each outside the store on two successive Saturdays.
The store manager Neil Hawkins said any comments he heard were positive. Most of the comments given said they thought it was a good idea.

One of the shoplifters, Lisa King Fithian, 46, wore the sign from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to avoid a 60-day jail sentence. Another convicted shoplifter was at the store from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Lisa Fithian said she is innocent and her conviction was because of a misunderstanding. She said a $7 item would not scan and she was on her way to the service desk when arrested.
Fithian said that while she was outside the store the people who saw her wearing the sandwich board that stated she was a shoplifter said they thought the punishment was cruel.
The store manager agreed it would be embarrassing for the person to be seen by the public for being caught for shoplifting and having to wear a sign that told what they had done. But he said,
"Maybe they'll think twice about doing it"
