Just saw this reported on the BBC news:

More children should be in care, say MPs
More children at risk should be put into care, says a committee of MPs examining child protection in England.

They warned that too often the benefit of the doubt was given to neglectful parents who then failed to improve.

The MPs also said there was insufficient support for older children, particularly when vulnerable youngsters left the care system.

The government said any abuse was "unacceptable", adding it was "mid-way through a major reform" of the system.

The report, from the House of Commons Education Select Committee, warned that too many children were being left in circumstances of "long-term, chronic neglect".

MPs suggested that too often their parents were given multiple chances to change - at the cost of their children who were left without the support and safety they needed.

Rather than social services being too quick to act in removing a neglected child from a family, the report found that in practice there was too much of a presumption to leave the child with the family.

These parents, who might have their own problems with alcohol or drug abuse, were too often "monitored" over many years by support agencies, rather than facing direct interventions.

Full article is here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-20226345

Now, what is this slap bang in the middle of? All of the allegations about paedophilia and so forth, which show, I think quite clearly, that there has been systematic corruption involved. Yet here we have the Commons, who have quite obviously been involved in it, recommending more children be taken into care, and the BBC, who have absolutely obviously been involved in it, uncritically reporting that this would be a good idea.

I do smell a rat with this one, somehow.

That creeps me out. :O

This bit
The MPs also said there was insufficient support for older children, particularly when vulnerable youngsters left the care system.

No shit Sherlock! Taken someone about 30 odd years to work that out has it?

Wankers.

They must be acclimatising the public to it by repetition, because I know I read the same thing being raised earlier this year.

Don't you think the timing of this is odd, given the whole JS scandal?

It's definitely come up earlier in the year, which I expect they'd be pleased to point out as a defence if challenged about the timing.

That makes the sceptic in me think every step of this 'investigation' may have been planned in advance. It acknowledges some lingering complaints, and demonstrates (false) care and concern, whilst giving the public the impression that it's all about things that went on decades ago, and exposes people who, in the main, are no longer alive to face the consequences.

If there aren't some big, shocking stories in the media soon about children who've been neglected and abused by parents, to lend credence and support for increasing governmental child snatching, I'll be very surprised. I'm not saying it never happens, or in any way diminishing the cruelty some kids are subjected to at home, but I just feel there's a big, cunning illusion being created here. I hope I'm wrong.

A couple of dead nonces get outed and then the kids obviously need greater protection from such predators by placing them in the care of the machinations that allowed said dead nonces to do what they did in the first place!

Unbelievable!

After everything that's come out in the news recently, and some of it's gone on in homes. I can't believe this man is saying that more children should be put into care.

Very, and that's the saddest part. Maybe if all the television sets blew up people would take a bit more notice of the world around them.
Until then it's Strictly Come Ice Jungle Bastards all the way. :suicide:

I just don't think the average person in the street has any real inkling of the things Brian Gerrish has been trying to warn us about. He's a hero imo. Without the likes of him, the parents who fall victim their kids being taken must feel so isolated and powerless. It's ignorance that's the enemy, rather than apathy, I think.

Unless it's on the beeb or in the daily tabloids most people are never going to know. :( I don't hold such ignorance against people, that wouldn't be fair. I was one of them once as well.
one of them, one of them :O

I agree, Brian is a top fella. We can only hope that he doesn't fall victim to a heart attack whilst out walking on his own.

I’ll go against the grain here and agree at least partially that more children should be taken into care. There are way too many kids that are being neglected (and worse) by their so called ‘parents’. Problem is that childcare institutions are infested with all sorts of abusive individuals.
Unless you reform those institutions from the ground up, you shouldn’t be sending any kids there let alone more of them. On the other hand something needs to be done about these neglecting and/or abusive parents and perhaps that is the real issue not being talked about here, or anywhere else for that matter.

I don't think it's being deliberately ignored here to be fair, but for one thing, I've no idea of any statistics of actual child /neglect abuse. It's not a matter to be taken lightly, but then again, I don't know how we could trust any such statistics as being accurate.

I doubt anyone here would condone bad treatment of kids by their families, but with such a flawed care system, applauding the view that taking more kids into it just wouldn't feel right.

Take it the stocks are running though eh!

It has always been an unspoken fact that children in care 'are abused'

It is coming to light with the Jimmy Saville case, and th Welsh care homes things

Why on earth would more children need to be fostered out for abuse

That’s understandable. That’s why my endorsement of the thread’s title premise is strictly conditional.

At the end of the day I think this pronatalist society of ours is well over due for bringing about real and enforceable children’s rights. That would mean the re-thinking of a number of things including the education system and childcare to name a couple but hey! are we really serious about children’s welfare or it’s just lip service? Because ultimately this is the real reason why things like pedophilia, child abuse, incest, rape (etc) are not properly punished , nor treated with the level of gravity it deserves, same as all other types of so called ‘minority’ issues such as; racism, classism, women’s rights (etc). All these things happen because they’re not viewed as 'real' problems [GDP growth trumps all - type rhetoric for instance] and at least at some level they’re allowed to happen because people/society are either indifferent at best, or complicit at worst.

Acclimatising? Conditioning is more of an accurate term for it imo. :(
