In a recent development, Britain's foreign and commonwealth office (FCO) had revealed that the butcher of Woolwich - Michael Adebolajo was actually earlier given consular assistance by the British embassy in Kenya after he was arrested in 2010.

Adebolajo was also helped by the British embassy after he was allegedly arrested for leading a group of Islamists trying to join a terrorist group al-Shabaab in neighbouring Somalia.

FCO officials said Adebolajo came to the attention of Britain's intelligence agency MI5 after he appeared in court in Kenya.

Eralier Nusaybah, whose real name is Ibrahim Hassan and is a friend of Adebolajo said MI5 had been after Adebolajo to recruit him. But Adebolajo had refused.

"They wanted him to spy on a group of Muslims who have links to al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula. AQAP, based in Yemen, has been called 'the most active operational franchise' of Al Qaeda beyond Pakistan and Afghanistan,", Nusaybah said.

There's quite a bit about it in this thread that you must have missed Knobs. He allegedly went to see a solicitor last year to complain of MI5 harrassing him. (That was in the Guardian).

There's much contradiction in the press, because while some papers have reported that it was the Kenyan thing that brought him to MI5's attention, that was only around 6 months ago, whereas other reports have claimed MI5 have had him on their radar for 8 years.
