Its strange but the EU seem to be more in favour of intervention in syria than the US now, despite obama's gas red line etc.
Maybe its because he's waiting for raytheon and halliburton to get a contract first.
I personally think this is just the next stage of the propaganda. They've done the Bush 'with or against us' rhetoric to death. They've just moved on to a new phase where Obama pretends to be really solmenly considering his options, and the US doesn't quite so demonstrably put itself at the head of what will be described as UN allegiance / decision made by the 'international community/', etc.

So if this is the 'right-wing' British press, imagine what the sabre-ratting US press and broadcast media (all owned directly and indirectly by arms manufacturers) has to say about it. So we know that the two parties work together and are controlled by the same interests, so maybe they just decided that the best way into Iran is to make Obama look like a ditherer, and by the end of his second term the media will have whipped everyone up into a frenzy that 'strong leadership' is required. And then they'll just produce the next Romney clone off the shelf, or maybe just Romney, and then they'll just start recycling the Bush rhetoric over again, but it'll look like an organic process.
Or even if this isn't deliberate, it could be a consequence anyway. A hawkish, 'I don't know where Syria is, but let's turn it into a parking lot, anyway' is pretty much the default mindset in the US, so it's pretty easy to get people on board with such activity.
