So not "always", eh?

Are we talking about Ron Paul or AJ?

Ron Paul ran as a Libertarian.
When running as a Republican RP always spoke as a Libertarian....which the original Republican party was; fundamentally against big government. When questioned on that seeming dichotomy - RP always said the Republican party today is not what it used to be and he was the only one in line with true, original, republican ideals. Which he is and was.....a fierce opponent of big government and its creeping totalitarianism.
If you meant AJ - don't know about that; if he was probably in naiver days or merely a more strategic move to take the republican party back towards its original form, from the inside.
Pointles running as a Libertarian for the simple fact the US political system is a controlled 2 party, pseudo democratic sham and utterly geared to destroy any other party opposition by vote rigging and cash for influence despotism in their voting system.

Alex ran as a Republican

As I said: not always
In early 2000, Jones was one of seven Republican candidates for state representative in Texas House District 48, an open seat swing district based in Austin, Texas. Jones stated that he was running "to be a watchdog on the inside",[24] but withdrew from the race after a couple of weeks.

AJ running as an insider or check and balance....could have been a tactical move and also a chance to get his voice heard. Who knows - he was more of a loose cannon in those days so might have been impetuosity of youth; and a known hot head too.

I think a lot of Libertarians thew there lot in with Rand Paul, in the early days, in the hope of a "Like father like son" politician. But Rand Paul, disappointingly, is very certainly NOT following in his fathers footsteps. Initially many thought he was "playing the republican game" in order to gain more support and influence in the party. However, actions speak louder than words and there is no corrollation with the above theory.
AJ's most recent comments seem to reflect that and has expressed his disappointment......mainly by getting on Paul's case. AJ may have been a supporter of Paul junior in the early days but I thinks his blinkers are now off. The republicans are going to lose a hell of a lot of the grass roots, and large younger electorate support, from Libertarians who rallied to Ron Paul in the last two presidential elections.
Paul junior will never deliver the political integrity and statesmanship that his father brought to snakeoil Washington.

Yep, I do know that but he also ran in one election as a Libertarian candidate. He has always maintained that the older republican ethos was essentially Libertarian values. His reason for running as a Republican was to try and influence the policy of modern day republicanism back to wards its Libertarian roots.
His voting record is prima facie evidence of that intention. He was virtually an outcast as a Republican because of his unrelenting stance and calls for republicans to return to libertarian values.
Read his books and papers Mikey - Ron Paul was no modern day interpretation Republican; he was a dyed in the wool old school republican which was, essentially, what we today label Libertarian.

I agree that Rand is a fucking cunt.

Still that means AJ, who has known the lad for a long time, has faulty judgment at least.

That does not detract from the quality of the Constitution, as your OP pointed out.

OTOH the Consitiurion arrives from other schools of thought, and many Americans think that such ideas appeared on the date in your title of the thread.

And they didn't.

I could write a book on all the incredibly forward thinking Jurists, commentaters and social philosophers that created a wellspring of new thought that abounded before the American and French revolutions. Awesome stuff, awesome intelligence of thought that is sadly lacking in our supposedly more modern and socially enlightened world.

And they didn't.
Go back as far as Francis Bacon - supposedly a Rosicrucian, and you will see the germ of thought developing amongst his peers both in europe and England. A lot of "Illuminated" thinking in them thar days :D But don't go all conspiracy or you'll end up barking at the moon. ;)

Well yes and no WH

You're a clever person, and you must know snake oil as advertised.

My pont is that the 1776 thang did not appear out of nowhere and even the chronological approach is useless because it is so western-centric.

I agreed with your point Mikey - There were so many writers and thinkers responsible for a move aways from monarchys to republicanism as a system of government. And even the brand new concept of a social contract; it is hard to pin down to any one school of thought or influence. Some say it may have been closer to home and a resurgent neo-platonist school and others still, Eastern thought influenced by Budhism, Hinduism, Zoroastrianism even Islam in some cases.
Others still see a Freemasonic influence; who were desperate to create a historical lineage back to Alexander(ria) and even Akenhaten the pharoah who, for a brief time propogated monotheism. All which is really little more than supposition, conjecture and wishful thinking.
Personally I think it was down to it being a period of "General" enlightenment and no one single influential school of thought.

I think it goes back further.

Lay blame at feemasons (cunts) and all sorts of cults, if you will, but the will to impoverish others in oder to enrich yourself, did not start with any cult. The cult is a symptom.

And now we get down to the nasty.

Are you happy in your skin?

No?

Do you need to find your self love in contrast?

Is you reflection not in a reflective surface but in the faces of those that tell you what theyt see?

In that case, the poorer they are and the richer you are makes you more admirable, right?

Check it out

Meanwhile...back OT...seems the local sheriff is doing some diplomatic dealings in the background...
LAS VEGAS -- A major development is percolating in the showdown at the Bundy ranch in Bunkerville, Nevada -- a possible deal is in the works. It's an 8 News Now exclusive.

The I-Team has learned that a tentative deal has been brokered by Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie to de-escalate the tense standoff between rancher Cliven Bundy and his supporters and the Bureau of Land Management.

Sources tell the I-Team that Sheriff Gillespie has negotiated a potential agreement in which the BLM would halt its roundup of Bundy's cattle and withdraw its employees from the Gold Butte area.

The BLM wants to proceed with the sale of the cattle already gathered during the roundup but is reportedly willing to share the revenue from the sale with Bundy.

Sheriff Gillespie has been negotiating with Bundy behind the scenes for months and may have reached a tentative agreement Friday night, though Bundy insisted the sheriff come to his ranch to finalize the arrangement face-to-face.

The two men agreed to meet this morning to discuss the agreement prior to a public announcement, which could come at 9 a.m.

www.8newsnow.com/story/25230368/major-de...cliven-bundy-and-blm

Has a hint of the sheriff basically telling the BLM to 'get orff of my land'....metaphorically speaking! :D

From what I'm seeing over on 'tother forum'....people over there are just getting fed up to the back teeth with the Fed.......

Problem now is.....
1. what tactics will they employ next time?....
2. where does this leave the Chinese with their solar power?.....
3. what's Bundy gonna do next?.....

This whole thing is worth keeping an eye on simply because the people made a stance, rightly or wrongly

Come on Mikey - this hatred you have of Jones is getting a bit obsessive :D I'm certainly no AJ fan.....I'm not a fanboy of anybody...anywhere - I have no heroes.
But there is a huge mass of people who wouldn't be awake and aware if it hadn't heard what Jones has been preaching - even listening for an hour will have changed a lot of peoples worldview. So, if Jones is a state sponsored propagandist or "shill" he has failed miserably - because his mix of reality with disinformation, if that is what it is, is fundamentally flawed; and somebody got their truth to propaganda ratio seriously wrong.

I don't listen to Jones unless I want an angle on a particluar issue. Then I go to MSM and their spin then I go to independent commentators and the AM then I source documentary information before coming to an opinion.
He is just ONE source of information - any sensible person will go looking for a fuller picture. Sadly there are those that are lazy and take the BBC/Sky/Fox/MSNBC/RT as their sole purveyoer of information......and, even though I deplore it - if most peoples sole source of info was Jones they would have a more balanced worldview than those who form their worldview from the MSM flunkys mentioned above.

Did Jones run off with one of your girlfriends Mikey? You are a bit rabid mate :D

'tother forum - ATS maybe? Funny forum that - some are smart as a smart thing and others dumber than a hammer. And also a surprising amount of "On the Plantation" fuckwit Federal government apologists....who grind my gears :D

Problem now is.....
1. what tactics will they employ next time?.... Depending how the MSM spin this event - there may not be a "next time" This might actually be a turning point (I hope) and we will see a reversal of Federal influence acting under "Colour of Law". That may be wishful thinking though.
2. where does this leave the Chinese with their solar power?..... I don't care - they are only after debt payment in the form of land grabs in cahoots with treasonous US politicians.
3. what's Bundy gonna do next?..... I don't know but he must maintain the momentum his brave stance has created - as he always said "It's not about me, tortoises or cattle - its about freedom" I would add it is also about the Federal Government and that it needs to be reigned in....which is what needs to happen at home in the UK too.

This whole thing is worth keeping an eye on simply because the people made a stance, rightly or wrongly - There is no wrong as far as I can see - The people must always make a stand - because apathy and acquiesence only encourages more bullying.

:jane:
