First one
The first is about humiliy and hope. Many of our greatest saints had lived terrible lives prior to their conversion: paul/saul being the best example perhaps. This phrase reminds us that even our greatest heros are not perfect nor are they free of wrongdoing. But this also gives us hope because this means that even flawed people like ourselves can turn over a new leaf. Perhaps there is also the suggestion that despite what we may think, not much seperates them after all.

Second one
I posted this not so much because i think its true, but because for a lomg time now, it is particularly relevant. Patriotism I understand to be the love of ones country, but I think Wilde is referring to an Imperial Patriotism due to the time in which he was living; capital of the British Empire.

Third one

I think Wilde is suggesting that it is easy to resolve oneself to playfair when one has the advantage., but perhap not so easy otherwise. Therefore if one has a "winning hand" in life (privildge) it is easy to play by the rules (do not commit crime) but that should not make such a person morally superior. It's easy to be a good person when you are at an advantage but this does not make one virtuous.

Interesting outlook and take on it... does make you think a bit more than the immediate reaction to the quotes that I had.
