Without 'bad' there is no measurement of 'good'.
See also light and dark.

One is redundant without the other.

I understand it in an abstract sense but can't accept there has to be bad in the world.

Yin Yang

Taoism is the nearest thing I found to match my beliefs, the only problem I have with it is it seems to suggest 'bad' is necessary to keep 'good' in balance.

Yes, it's the same with a lot of things I've looked at.

In fact the book I found most persuasive really was a version of the Kabbalah, because in the main, it identified a balance of qualities, some of which may at first view be perceived to be negative, but interpreted them in a positive light. (It'd probably be helpful if I gave examples, but my memory's not clear on specifics & it's a good few years since I read it).

Certainly when I looked at white witchcraft a few years back, I thought the folk I encountered who practised it were daft, because they'd be trying to invoke various entities - pantheon members, who each represent a particular aspect of the Goddess - knowing that each of them is attributed with, basically undesirable, negative traits along with the positive. To me, why the heck invite them in!?!

Often the only difference between good or bad is who/what you are and where you're positioned at the time.

That's true, but I'm a romantic - the intention justifies the means.

But where would the road paved with bad intentions lead? :O (Don't tell me it's Heaven! :D )

From what I've seen, usually to untold wealth, power and a guilt free conscience. :(

I'm not digging the yin yang as a symbol of duality.

I'm floating along with the yin yang being more related to this:

D'oh, that ^ was interesting, but typically it jammed up half way through for me. Will have to look again later.

I was using the yin/yan symbol in the way I understand it to be about the prefect balance of different but equal male & female energies to create harmony.

Aye but even in that context, the yin yang presents a third point. That being the boundaries. To me that third point is what the apparent duality points to. It is the union, the point where something is neither male/female, good/bad etc. The point of being.
That's not the same as the point of balance.

Interesting vid dubs, ties in with some past ponderings of my own. I always wondered what was used as a reference point to establish the position of the universe and wondered how we could ever be sure if the universe is static or moving. However he offers the water down the plug hole thing as some sort of proof but I thought that theory had been proven wrong :dunno:

That video is a very teeny nugget of the view of the universe Harramein presents. He refers to the plug holes just as a way of visualizing the Coriolis effect.

For a better view of Harramein's work, this is the one to start with. Beware though it's quite a few hours:

Might have to break that down into 8 half hour viewings (when I've gotten around to replacing this machine with one that works).
