The 1982 Diamond Crash was the worst operational accident to befall the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Air Demonstration Team involving show aircraft.. 4 Northrop T-38 Talon jets crashed during operational training on 18 January 1982, killing all 4 pilots..."At the speed they were going when they came out of the loop, I just thought, "That's the end of that for them fellows,'" said W. G. Wood of Indian Springs, who witnessed the crash as he drove along U.S. 95. "It happened so fast I couldn't tell you if one hit sooner. It looked like all of them hit at the same time."
A 5-page report of the mishap was published by Aviation Week & Space Technology magazine in their issue dated 17 May 1982..On April 2, 1984, at the direction of Gen. Wilbur Creech, Commanding General, USAF Tactical Air Command, all copies of the crash videotape were destroyed, with Creech himself erasing the final crash segment of the master tape. Marcus Simon Sarjeant (born 1964) is notable for firing 6 blank shots at Queen Elizabeth II as she rode down The Mall to the Trooping the Colour ceremony in 1981..Sarjeant, who was from Capel-le-Ferne, near Folkestone, Kent, went to Astor Secondary School in Dover. He was a member of the Scouts, becoming local patrol leader before leaving to join the Air Training Corps in 1978. In the ATC, Sarjeant won a marksman's badge, and he owned an air rifle.. After leaving school in May 1980 with 7 CSE passes, Sarjeant applied to join the Royal Marines but could not accept the discipline and left after 3 months, claiming that officers bullied him.. He also tried to join the Army but stayed only for 2 days of an induction course...
After failed applications to join the police and the fire service he worked at a zoo and at an arts centre in Folkestone. Under the Youth Training Scheme he worked at a youth centre in Hawkinge.. Friends reported that in October 1980 Sarjeant joined the Anti Royalist Movement. At the time of his attack on the Queen he was unemployed and living with his mother (his father was working abroad)..On 13 June 1981, Sarjeant joined the crowds for Trooping the Colour, finding a spot near the junction between The Mall and Horseguards Avenue. When the Queen came past riding her 19-year-old horse Burmese, Sarjeant quickly fired 6 blanks from his starting revolver.. The police found that Sarjeant had written "I am going to stun and mystify the world. I will become the most famous teenager in the world." Investigations by psychiatrists found that Sarjeant did not have any abnormalities within the Mental Health Act..sentenced to 5 yrs..After 3 years in jail which were mostly spent at Grendon psychiatric prison, Sarjeant was released in October 1984 at the age of 20.. He changed his name and began a new life...The attack happened 15 minutes after the Queen's departure from Buckingham Palace. Immediately, the Sovereign's Escort was ordered by the Gold Stick in Waiting to "close up" around Her Majesty. The Queen regained control of her mount, and continued to Horse Guards Parade..

On 26 April 1986, at 01:23 (UTC+3), reactor 4 suffered a catastrophic power increase, leading to explosions in its core. This dispersed large quantities of radioactive fuel and core materials into the atmosphere and ignited the combustible graphite moderator. The burning graphite moderator increased the emission of radioactive particles, carried by the smoke, as the reactor had not been encased by any kind of hard containment vessel. The accident occurred during an experiment scheduled to test a potential safety emergency core cooling feature, which took place during a normal shutdown procedure..An inactive nuclear reactor continues to generate a significant amount of residual decay heat. In an initial shut-down state (for example, following an emergency SCRAM) the reactor produces around 7 percent of its total thermal output and requires cooling to avoid core damage...At 23:04, the Kiev grid controller allowed the reactor shut-down to resume. This delay had some serious consequences..The test plan called for a gradual reduction in power output from reactor 4 to a thermal level of 700–1000 MW..The reactor was now only producing around 5 percent of the minimum initial power level established as safe for the test...

Dennis Andrew Nilsen (born 23 November 1945) is a serial killer and necrophiliac, also known as the Muswell Hill Murderer and the Kindly Killer, who committed the murders of 15 young men in London, England, between 1978 and 1983..Owing to the similarities between the modus operandi of the murders, Nilsen has been described as the "British Jeffrey Dahmer."Nilsen was born at 10 High Street, Strichen, Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, to a Scottish mother, Elizabeth (Betty) Duthie Whyte, and a Norwegian father, Olav Magnus Moksheim, who adopted the surname Nilsen.. His father was an alcoholic and his parents divorced when he was 4 years old. His mother remarried and sent her son to his grandparents, but after a couple of years he returned to his mother. Nilsen claimed the first traumatic event to shape his life came about when he was a small child, when his beloved grandfather died of a heart attack in October 1951.. His strict Catholic mother reportedly insisted that he view the body before burial. Nilsen's father moved back to Norway, where he died...
Between 1978 and 1983, Nilsen is known to have killed 15 men and boys.. The majority of Nilsen's victims were homeless or homosexual men whom he would typically meet in bars or on the streets and lure to his home with an offer of food, alcohol or shelter. Once at Nilsen's home, the victims were usually given food and alcohol, then strangled and drowned during the night. He used his butchering skills, which he gained from his time as a cook in the army, to help him dispose of the bodies. The bodies were not immediately dismembered, but were kept, sometimes for several months, in different locations in his home, usually under the floorboards. Nilsen later admitted to having engaged in sexual acts with the corpses of his victims...In October 1981 Nilsen moved several miles eastwards to an attic flat at 23 Cranley Gardens,as his murders continued, he found it difficult to dispose of the remains and had bin bags full of human organs stored in his wardrobe.Nilsen's murders were first discovered by Dyno-Rod, a drain-cleaning company responding to a blocked drain.The company found the drain was packed with a flesh-like substance.Upon closer inspection, some small bones and what looked like chicken flesh were found in a pipe leading from the drain, with rats feeding on them; the remains were passed to pathologist Professor David Bowen, who advised that they were human..Nilsen later apologised to the police for not being able to remember the exact number of people he had killed. When his flat was searched, human remains were found inside black bin liners in a wardrobe. When interviewed by police he confessed there were further remains in a tea chest in his living room and in an upturned drawer in his bathroom. The dismembered and mutilated body parts were the bodies of 3 men..
