I wonder if it is worth it for me to build a new desktop or just forget it and focus on cloud and mobile computing?

I use to build them but now I am in two minds, any thoughts?

spose it depends what you are planning to use it for.

Fuck cloud computing, anyone interested in the protection of personal information should boycott that shit

What Mart said... depends on what you want it for. Building one from the ground up can come in very handy if you're doing certain things and want it completely secure (or as secure as you can get it lol). First you have to decide, why do I need to build a new one?

I really wouldn't bother with a desktop now.
Perhaps a decent laptop but one that'll last 5 years or so, Dell XPS perhaps or Alienware.
That'll probably be the last end computing device you get imho.

Desktops deffo not, the electricity usage is ridiculously wasteful.

My laptops just fine with any game :D

It cost more than 900 quid though lol :p

By my reckoning though I save enough on the leccy bill, a 600w desktop beast is scary if you leave it on too long.

Replacing my current build will still be more efficient power wise, as it is a 3 year old build and power consumption in genral has improved a lot in recent years.

My quad core phenom 955 black has lasted very well tho.
