Sorted initially by the presentation medium, then sub categorised by broad topic headers (or we'd end up with hundreds).
and yes, they're arranged alphabetically because I'm that freaking anal at times.

in the interests of fairness though perhaps we could have a sticky in the recommended reading section which lists other forums that offer the opportunity to discuss subjects of interest - these can be nominated by members here and have a short description - by having a sticky where links can be submitted we are neither stopping other places being talked about nor pushing links into peoples faces.

We already have that facility but it's not ready for prime time you can see it by visiting the top menu > The Zone > Web Link Zone.

Logged in members will see the top menu link to the left of the listing which allows them to add links to the system. I'm a lousy librarian and collator as you have probably noticed. We need a structure which makes sense and allows us to distribute links in to meaningful and related sections. If anyone is unsure where to add a link they can use the uncategorised section and then ask the mods/admins to add a new section or move it to a relevant one.

If there is a talented collator out there please feel free to set out a structure I can use to build the link directory.

I have added some links to give people an idea of how it works and examples of entries including an image and short description with a link.

If members spot links which are obviously there purely for commercial activities and promotion they should report them. The community can decide whether to remove the offending link etc. That would also apply to links which are promoting activity which is illegal or offensive blar blar.

If a member doesn't want to post a link themselves for whatever reason they can open a thread or PM a mods to ask for a site to be included.

As for links to sodlikeproductions they haven't been removed from posts as far as I know, and I actually added links to the site myself because I also think people should be free to draw their own conclusions. Removing links from a banned members sig isn't quite the same thing as global censorship. The reality is that the link in the sig is more like spam as opposed to a contextual source link IMHO. Writing off all the content which has been posted on sods site would be short sighted. People reading his site will get different opinions from other members who have posted in response to the treads there, which can only be a good thing from my perspective. Reading things you don't agree with isn't going to automatically poison your mind, and may well serve to open or change it occasionally. You may even see the funny side of some of the content presented over there.

I went exploring and when I clicked the "add a link" I got
"403 You are not authorised to view this resource."

I note that Monsieur Le Frog did say it wasn't ready to rock yet,
I'm just flagging it up in case it's not supposed to display that atm.

May I suggest an easy option would be to have a thread, (like this one) where folks can drop their links for inclusion, then the admins add them to the link zone under suitable headings?

I see two advantages there.
1: Most people are now familiar with the forum posts control panel. (the link zone panel is less intuitive imo).
2: There would be a back-up location if anything goes glitchy.

Edit: I think we both just suggested the same thing.

hey frog i had a go at putting a documentary link in there, but i think i fucked up, and i get a 403 to try and edit it

For the record, I'd be more than happy to make up clicky pics for anyone if the want them for their links.
I meant to offer that in the other thread but then a butterfly went past or somethi.........
