Having read through this thread now, I can honestly say I see more problems arising from opening to guests than it will ever justify.
Our main strength around here is the community spirit we have and that's mainly down to a complete change in how forums are generally moderated.
By introducing the guest posting option, we will have to do a complete u-turn on that and allow us mods to have free rule basically which goes against alot of what we stand for.... is what I'm trying to say coming across?
I don't know what else to add just now but that's just my initial thoughts.
I hadn't read this thread until now, but I find it impossible to disagree with this. I can't imagine how it could end up as be anything other than disastrous.
I haven't had much time to post recently, and probably won't for the foreseeable future, but I still find the time to post something up here if I come across something interesting. If people can't be arsed to sign up in order to post then they obviously don't want to post that much. If people are too scared to post because we're intimidating...well, we've got clear rules in place to deal with that, and no-one is being rude anyway, to my knowledge.
Besides which, I place far more value on quality than quantity. I'd rather have 400 quality, good natured posts per day, than 4,000 shit ones. There's plenty of places I can log on to read 4,000 shit posts.
Obviously some other people feel differently, and some of the stuff in this thread has been a bit of a surprise to me, as I had thought the site was going well and people were getting on reasonably well also.
