Indeed. Glad to see you recognise that problem...
So we agree, it's best resolved and set down before a serious problem arrives.
No, I was referring to the problem of the timespan involved in selecting a replacement mod by community vote, ie it taking potentially weeks or even months to do so, as you pointed out.
Meanwhile, we're running the place a mod short.
Therefore...would it not be sensible to put procedure in place at this juncture to avoid this happening again? Instead of just going round and round in circles?
What procedure do you suggest for a very quick method for the community to vote in a new mod from scratch?
We could I suppose vote in a 'reserve shortlist' of potential replacement mods, waiting in the wings in case a current mod drops out. But that would bring a whole set of problems in itself wouldn't it?
For a start, the turnover of mods on SZ is slow, replacements are needed very infrequently. Those on the 'shortlist' would in a way have to deal with all the stigma of modship whilst possibly never becoming one.
Sounds like a good place to start, to me. How about, we ask who'd be interested to begin with, then that way you have the beginnings of a shortlist, at least.
Next, decide the best method of polling/agreeing who goes up from the list, when required. Tbh, the thread about feather worked perfectly well for me and gave all the opportunity to express any concerns. If you wanted something more in depth where every member was contacted for their vote, you could perhaps stipulate that 'emergency' mods may be taken from the shortlist to cover any such periods without notice to all members.
Maybe.
