May I enquire about your vision of how this 'alternative' would actually function?
Who does the housework and takes the bins out?

First thing, I did not want the mod job. I do want this community to succeed and thrive though so if there was something I could do to help that along I was prepared to take on a mod role for a time.

If I may offer some clarity about the actuality of being a mod on SZ so far for me.
I have to date;
1: Banned Mrs McGregor for 1 1/2hrs (just to familiarise myself with that process should it regretfully be needed). Which was fun.
2: Accidently edited one of your posts because the buttons on the mod control panel shift things slightly and I was a klutz.
3: I then corrected my error.
4: Moved a thread for Silvershine to Today's News.
aaaaand ................ that's it.
Major NWO Fail job.

Extract from the Diary of Adrian Mod aged 55 11/12

I see that joke workload as an accolade to how SZ's members do treat the site. :up2:

Oh and btw I have had zero input from 'the elite'.
Novum messaged me to say he'd set up permissions for me to view the control panel in case I had questions, he did so............................. and that's it!
No instructions, policy briefings, world domination scheme handed down .......... nuffin.
Just a brush and shovel.

I feel exactly the same as I did before accepting the janitors job and I intend to carry on the same way, if that became difficult or frowned upon, the brush and shovel would get tossed instantly. You have my word on that.

I'm confident the previous mods will tell a similar tale.
So now we've put all that to bed, maybe we can also put to bed the innuendo and expectations from elsewhere.
That would be really nice please.

What isn't happening to your satisfaction?
What needs improvement?
What suggestions do you have to potentially address those?

:rose:

p.s.
I'm still working on being succinct myself obviously. :D

I am sincerely sorry that my head is a bag of spanners today as both myself and my son are nursing some sort of cold, hence the reason I have not explained myself properly and both your good self and others have missunderstood my post....completely my fault.
I shall say no more about it except that, like everybody else here, I DO applaud the work mods here have and will continue to do in the future.
Sorry for any confusion I have obviously caused.

That should do the trick. Your aim's a little high though - go for the tender, dangly bits! That should stuff the tea-bagging antics up a treat! :larf:

I've been pretty vocal on the subject of mods, most of it me just taking the mickey for no reason other than I'm a dick.
For the most part, I think this has led to a bit of misinterpretation and misunderstanding so I'll clarify my view.

In an ideal world, I would like to see no mods. I'd like to see people playing by the rules that they agree to when they sign up. If they do, there is no need for moderation. Failing everyone playing fair, I'd like to see the community being strong enough to point out the error of someone's ways and remind them of their duty to others and they rules they agreed to.
I am only talking about moderation in the truest sense of the word there. On the whole, as pointed out by feather, very little actual moderation has taken place on the SZ to date. That is a good thing and goes a long way towards showing myself that my view and desire need not be just a pipe dream. It could actually be achievable here.
With the likes of the few trolls and spammers that HAVE soiled the place, their ejection has been community led which is great.

Now, someone has to press various buttons to do the things feather has pointed out like moving threads and the stuff irre mentioned like advising on things like image posting. I don't really call that moderation personally. Although I understand that in most circles, it falls into the remit of a moderator, it's more housekeeping to my mind.

I would like to thank all of the housekeepers that have kept the place tidy and been there to advise members to date. I would like to state that I have no suspicion that "the others" see themselves as above the rest of us. A big thumbs up to all of them for their efforts.

To get to the OP, I personally would never want to become a moderator, moderation of free speech is something I don't support. Internet death to all mods ;) . However I'd be as happy as the next person to do housekeeping duties. Most if not all of us do our bit anyway from time to time. Ref people like andy (frog too but he is one of "the others" ;) ) who have offered sound advice to members on posting, browsers etc.

To sum up I would like to give a big pat on the back to everyone that contributes to this place in all the different ways. Largely we don't see moderation here due to the predominant respect shown (with the odd blip) and that's probably why I'm seemingly rather addicted :)
