I raise this just out of curiosity, and don't have strong views on it myself.

What do people think of the folk who join the forum but never post anything? Or make one post then are silent forever?

It seems to me that people sometimes join without any intention of contributing anything, but just want to snoop what's in the 'members only' sections, perhaps. Or some could be socks, registered in advance for when people get booted out, if their intention is to be overtly disruptive at some point. Is that OK with others here? Or do you think there's some other reason behind it?

I watched the DI forum for a while and this one for like a day.
I finally joined the DI forum because I started developing strong opinions about certain topics.
I joined this one because you guys seem paranoid about lurking Guests...

That forum reminds me of a 90s dirty acid techno club at 5 in the morning. Some people are euphoric and still going mental on the dance floor, some people are in the grip of paranoia and eyeing everyone suspiciously, some are oblivious to everything as they're busy busy chatting total shite as another speed bomb kicks in, others are in a total mess and talking to people who aren't there or are passed out in the toilets. The moderators are like surly bouncers who claim to be keeping order while they confiscate your drugs and sell them or use them themselves.

A mate of mine signed up when the forum got going because he was interested.... but then never got around to posting & is probably too busy.
I seem to remember he was dissatisfied with his original username so signed up again under a different name.
so that explains 2 of them of innocent origin....
