The Tea Party are an Astro Turf movement established by people like the Koch brothers.

They do have their volunteers from the ranks of utter twats who think that Ayn rand could write books .

I have first hand knowledge of this being the truth. I worked with a guy who used to call himself a Libertarian when the tea party first started up and now on the back of his truck is a Romney sticker. He seems to think that if a Republican gets in then we will have more work despite the fact that much of our work lately has come from EPA regulations being enforced and from Obama stimulus money for bridges etc.

I was at a party once long before the tea party and some guy asked me if I was a democrat or a Republican and I said neither so he assumed I must be a Libertarian. I said not really. He turned out to be very right wing. There are a lot of Ron Paul signs around here in Georgia. Other than Obama stickers(in Atlanta mostly) Ron Paul is what I see most and these people are usually Republicans I have found.

Of course they are, Alex Jones is just a Ron Paul gatekeeper supporting loudmouth who plays his part imho.
A real libertarian would support a libertarian candidate such as Lee Wrights.

I agree with you however Wrights (who I know little about) did not win the Libertarian nomination for the election. Gary Johnson did however and he was running as a Republican at one point also. So I would make a guess that he is probably fairly right wing also.

As are a lot of the followers, they are not pure libertarians which is why Johnson made the nomination.
They want just economic freedom, the social aspect is completely missing. There's a lot more to libertarianism than just carrying guns and paying no taxes. Unfortunately as we all know, the average IQ is 100 or so and that just doesn't cut it I'm afraid.
When the average is 140 or so then we might evolve. Got a long way to go yet ;)
