There is also the matter of the fund to "find Maddie" being set up within days, who does that?

The spin doctor being sent straight over to Portugal by the government

The top expensive law firm

The letter from prince c and his missus.

And so it goes on.........
I did what I thought was best at the time and when I knew better I did better. :)

Now this is interesting, it looks like Sonia Poulton approached Clarence Mitchell on behalf of TPV for an interview.

The whole case was suspicious to me since day one. What parents who are as well off as they are, leaves their children unattended while in a foreign country??

And not trying to sound like a conspiracy nut, they were on vacation during May 1st, which rings alarms for me as well. Yes deep in my heart of hearts, I hope to GAWD they haven't done the unspeakable to Maddie. Its heartbreaking even wrapping my head around the evilness people do to innocent children. But knowing what I know and how the higher ups just are all over it....

I think they left their children alone with regular checks because they wanted a break with adult company and felt the kids were safe. Rich, poor and in the middle parents behave differently. Its not like they left the kids for a day alone in Bogota, the kidnap capital of the world. I think it was a judgement call that was not unreasonable and it went horribly wrong for them.
What I don't understand is why the McCanns weren't investigated further after the way the cadaver dogs reacted? Or were they? :dunno:

I haven't kept a close eye on this whole thing, truthfully.

They are the most investigated and scrutinised couple ever and that is expected to continue, for ever.

A well off, well connected couple with a photogenic daughter whom the press takes great interest in. It would be odd if the McCanns did not capitalise on that to find Madeleine. I think if they rejected help and wanted the investigation to die away in people's memories, it would be more suspicious.

I feel the need to disagree with you very strongly on the judgment call thing, Barnfish.

You should never, ever leave small children to go off enjoying yourself. Ever. Never. Every parent should know that instinctively.

What if it was Wayne and Waynetta off the council estate with a gang of snotty nosed, scruffy kids and Maddie was a little runt, what do you think the difference would be then?

Most likely they would be villified by the press as chavs who left their tiny wee children all alone in an apartment in a strange country while they went out boozing with their mates from the estate. Wayne and Waynetta would have no help or money from anybody and the other kids would be taken into care.

That alone says everything I need to know about this case.

If kate/gerry mccann were an unemployed couple from mosside in manchester , their remaining kids would be in care and they would have been in court quicker than the kid disappeared :noudiint:

As of page 1 ;)

What is an acceptable age? What is acceptable circumstances? Would you condemn me if my offspring aged 6 went missing from the hotel bed room next to the bar me and my partner were sat in, the hotel being in a quiet part of a low crime town?

I find the was it right or was it wrong debate very interesting. The hindsight police and 24/7 parents have had a field day with this one. Meanwhile, parents who value freedom and space within a family, whereby they get on better when they have "me" time for them and the kids are keeping quiet.

She was three.

There is no fucking excuse for leaving a child that age. None.

Yes, if your 6 year old went missing from the hotel bedroom next to the bar where you & your partner were sat, I absolutely would condemn you, roundly and without any hesitation.

Parents can have freedom & space when they get a trusted, reliable babysitter. The child is the top priority. If there's no babysitter to be had, forget about going sitting in bars altogether. Wanting freedom & space is not a reasonable justification for negligence.

Indeed. It is interesting as well how the victims status and image plays a huge part in how the press and public react to crime cases. Christopher Jefferies, the mad professor looking landlord of murder victim Joanna Yeates and Amanda "Foxy" Knox, again found guilty of Meredith Kercher's murder in Italy are prime examples.

What if the kidnapping took place in my house whilst my child slept and we were sharing a bottle whilst watching the TV downstairs in the living room?

"The hindsight police"???

Parents are supposed to have the foresight to ensure things like this can't happen. It's called common sense.

What if it did? Are you saying that's a similar scenario to leaving tots in bed while you fook off out to a restaurant?

David Payne Small

Smartly dressed, middle aged, no thoughts as to what he is like.

There is no bait, I am interested having read a few forum debates that are polarised over whether or not the risk the McCanns took was outrageous or reasonable and how their status and image has affected people's opinions.

How could you even contemplate that the risk was anything but outrageous, given what happened? The facts speak for themselves. I hope you don't think it was a 'reasonable risk', because they needed some space and freedom?
