Does anyone on here know where to find or have any advice on how to find, old versions of the above at all please? Preferably free but if there's anything really good available that costs, I may be tempted.

I'd like to know what the landscape was like around here in the past and what kinds of buildings stood where etc.

Any advice would be great as you'll see by the title I'm not even sure what the names are of the things I want to search

Umm believe it or not a Dentist surgery has a great map on the wall where we live from about the 17 or 1800s and gives the parish breakdown of fields, orchards and the name of them.

The nearest library to me is open once a week now I believe and is the size of someones bathroom with very little in the form of mod cons. And you can forget the pubs

There must be websites but I dont know what the correct terminology is for what I want cuz

I want to specifically know where houses used to stand that have long been demolished... thats where my interest lies. Thought there may be something specific I could work from

Should be quite straight forward with internet access and by searching what you have called this thread, sketts.

I found a company a few years ago that printed off some copies of old ordnance maps for a couple of quid. Can't remember what it was called now, but they sent me my street and neighbouring areas as was in 1888.

You could also contact your local council offices for further info. Is there not a main county library you can access online either? The larger ones tend to have info like this stored within them. My local one used to have a man that came in once a week who looked after it all and you could make an appointment with him to go and have a nose. Worth asking.

Depending on when you want to go back to churches used to keep records of most things before libraries/registry offices did. Not sure if that'd include maps but worth an ask.
