It came up in another topic and I wanted to discuss it here. From watching doomsday preppers etc I have found a belief held by some that china's growth will lead to the dollar's collapse. Some people with this belief think that this will turn America into a cashless society.

Personally speaking I don't think this will happen. I think worse case scenario is that we are forced into production over importing. China does a lot of business with the u.s so I really don't see a benefit in them killing our economy off.

Having said that empires do not last forever do they?

Thoughts?

China could bring down the US economy yesterday if it wanted to...I am lead to believe it 'owns' a lot of American 'assets'.
"The yen coming to a town near you". :D

Sorry to sound flippant, but bartering is a great way to trade for the individual! ;)
As to the 'accepted' economy....meh!
In a bit if an ostrepolous mood today!

They probably could in theory but don't see why they would want to.

Like I said The yen coming to a town near you....that's why.
I believe they have just stopped trading in gold for oil and are only accepting the Yen...I could be wrong...but that doesn't sound too good.

I remember my mother (god bless her) saying many a time that her grandmother used to say "the yellowman will rule the world". Now as I am mid century myself...I have come across other 'oldies' from my area say the same thing...so this 'roumour' would have started waaaaay back in the mid 1800's! :O No one seems to know how this saying came about. The chinese are a very 'subtle' and closed society as we all know.....so who knows what their WMD is!

The end of the Dollar happened years ago they just maintain the illusion of it having any strength normally by throwing Dollars into military campaigns.

America has effectively been living for free off of Chinese imports and to add insult to injury every time they dump another load of new Dollars (QE) into the heap the investments China has devalue. How could it get any worse for China in reality? They would actually be better off keeping the resources and using them than giving shit way to America for currency that is worthless.

I have no idea how it will pan out in respect to a cash less society but I can't see that the result will be good for the man in the street. Who is going to fund a drive that involves production over imports? Agriculture in the US has been systematically handed to corporations and factory systems, vast areas of automotive manufacturing has collapsed, Hollywood turns out garbage but they manage to sell it, most areas of manufacturing has been out sourced. Your government, corporations and banks clearly don't give a shit seeing how they created the situation. The out come of which has been obvious for years. You can't survive on a business model like that indefinitely. Fixing or salvaging the situations would have started several years ago if the Businesses involved were proactive and devoted to the domestic situation.

Although that has been said with respect to the USA it's the same in the majority of western economies. The UK is a carbon copy all you need to to is swap the name referenced.

We are all in deep shit dollar or no dollar.

We will have digital currency but we'll keep the 'dollar', the 'pound' etc etc.
The names will stay but the bankers will get what they want. They really couldn't give a damn what the proles call it.

Why do people always paint the USA as a victim country when they are a predator country spreading war throughout the world with their fascist links to the Military Industrial Complex creating havoc wherever they see fit.

It gets boring when the USA is constantly promoted as under threat when they do all the threatening.

Boring right wing crap which is at the core of the conspiracy agenda.

IMHO :)

I guess it's because the average bod in the street knows that the state is screwing their country up and in the case of the USA and the UK other peoples countries as well. The vast majority don't agree with what the government does domestically or internationally. So in that respect the general population of all countries are victims of the state. People are just people the world over. We all want pretty much the same things and have the same needs. Although in the west we have been trained to want shit that no one actually needs. That's why governments the world over are setting up to fend of their civilian populations it's just a matter of time before a critical mass forms to over throw the government, that mass is far lower than the numbers involved in a voting return.

The citizenry of most countries are the victims of government and corporate negligence. Look at what's going on in Ireland, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Greece the people are trying to salvage something despite the actions of their governments. Those countries are the tip of the iceberg because virtually all the major western countries face the same sorts of issues.

I was talking about it from a citizen perspective not poor American state.

As andyh said I think we already have that yes.

Batou yes indeed production would be great.

Frog I just think if they pushed in that direction then something would have to give which is why I don't think it will go that way.

The fed just announced something about stimulus money too. See they can just make more money. Or just type more as andyh said.

No they don't last forever, and people on this earth have lived through many major changes, and civilizations have followed new paths of beliefs and leaderships, the problem in my opinion is now the world has the ability to completely destroy human life and for that matter all life, if not from a first strike but the aftermath and sickness, and the ruining of a once fertile earth

My bad. :O You would think most people would have caught that one since its release in 1968. Maybe catching that little snippet will spur people on to find out what that scene means in context if they haven't seen the movie. :dunno:

It fits in with what Rick was saying and that isn't exactly an original concept of how things might play out. Israel, USA and their supporters could be primed to unleash a fate such as that on the world, which is a rather shocking reality. It's hard to believe that any sane mind could even consider involvement in such activity, let alone the collective minds of whole governments around the world. :axe:
