Diana's Death: Police Passed New Information

Scotland Yard is assessing new information on the death of Princess Diana to determine whether it is credible.

New information that alleges Princess Diana was murdered has been passed to Scotland Yard through military sources, according to the Metropolitan Police.

The information, thought to include the allegation that the Princess of Wales, Dodi al Fayed and their driver were killed by a member of the British military, will be assessed by officers from the Specialist Crime and Operations Command.

It was passed to the police by the parents-in-law of a former soldier, according to Sky sources.

The deaths of the Princess Diana and Mr al Fayed in Paris in 1997 were investigated and examined during a 90-day inquest led by Lord Justice Scott Baker at the Royal Court of Justice in 2007.

On April 7, 2008, the jury concluded their verdict as "unlawful killing, grossly negligent driving of the following vehicles and of the Mercedes".

The Metropolitan Police added the assessment was not a re-investigation and does not come under Operation Paget - the inquiry led by Lord Stevens into conspiracy theories surrounding Princess Diana and Mr al Fayed's deaths.

Pushing all dislike & disapproval aside for a moment, I pity her sons' position.

I think the waters are far too muddy for anyone to ever be brought to justice over that.

Depends what the new evidence is, I reckon. While I'll acknowledge that the truth of these matters are rarely likely to see the light of day, just an incurable desire for fair play makes me never give up hope. I can't even say I had any time for Diana, but murder's murder.

I gave up expecting this to be solved a long long time ago Gilly.

I'm hardly 'pro' police myself (I do think they're a necessary 'evil', and if they didn't exist, we'd invent them anyway) but surely they've got way too much on without having to delve into a death that happened almost twenty years ago?

Fuck knows anyway.. It's always good to see people been brought to genuine justice, but I honestly think it's going to be another JFK, and that we'll still be discussing it in fifty years time, with new theories being born every once in a while.

This was on the front page of the Mail the other day. I didn't post it because I just think it could easily turn out to be a red herring, or something that is routinely dismissed, and ultimately do more harm than good.

SAS troops are convinced ­Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed were murdered, it was revealed yesterday.

Soldiers serving with the elite regiment at the time are certain their deaths in a Paris car crash were not accidental.

However, they are sceptical of claims that fellow members of the regiment were involved.

Far from dismissing reports of a cover-up as a conspiracy theory, many SAS men feel there are too many unanswered questions.

A source said: “There has always been a view among certain members of the regiment that Diana’s death was not an accident. It is not a view shared by every­one but there is a core of soldiers who believe she was killed.

“When you are planning a military operation you have to train and practise every step of the mission and even then things can go wrong. Look at all the factors involved in Diana’s death. For that to be passed off as an accident just doesn’t ring true.”

People appear to be seeking out my 'nutty conspiracist' stance on things lately on all manner of topics, having remembered some throw away comment I may have made years ago. That really is the best way to do it. I'd like to say I feel very smug about this but unfortunately, this joke just isn't funny any more. It's nice that people are even actually considering this stuff now though.

I have not seen the new film but I do wonder if it will do more harm than good. It's already been panned by critics by all accounts and I am thinking perhaps that was the intention of it in the first place.

I wonder if anyone will be brave enough to do a 9/11 one?
