I adore some much of the music in this thread. Classical music just has so many layers. Being a 'we're just a solid inteference pattern of energy waves' kinda guy I've always thought of classical music as creation music. It's the sound of the soul.
Only classical can make me shiver, feel warm and cause me to shed a few happy tears.

Here's my fave. It lifts me up so damn high but makes me ache as well.

Thanks for the Rachmaninov, mikey.

That's a pretty neat song.

The intro reminds me of Fake Plastic Trees

Even though this is a dirge, so probably not appropriate for lifting depression, I love the way the different strands of melody weave round each other...

Listening to this through my headphones a couple of years ago, my lad asked what was playing, so I encouraged him to have a listen, telling him if he shut his eyes & focussed on it, he'd feel like he was flying. He said, "Nah, if you're listening to it, it'll be some gang of banjo-strumming hillbillies". :toetap:

I posted quite a few pieces of sacred music from the rCC tradition (amongst other things) so I would like to ass something from the Eastern Orthodox and the Anglican tradition.

More choral stuff:

One by an American sung by a british choir and one by a British composer sung by an American choir, respectively.

I always find this song really reassuring:

Let's face it, we could do with one at the moment.
The true measure of a man is not his intelligence or how high he rises in this freak establishment. The true measure of a man is this: how quickly he can respond to the needs of others and how much of himself he can give - Philip K. Dick.

Geat tune. Simon and Garfunkle did indeed make some songs that touch the soul (the Boxer and mrs Robinson and the Rock are all up there with the givers of peace-giving sound).

so this so-called "guilty pleasure" is another example of soothing sounds. Balm for the soul

and another American great with this

I am increasingly fond of Russian Orthodox tradition. Something that is relatively unappreciated in the West.
