UN urges people to eat insects to fight world hunger

Eating more insects could help fight world hunger, according to a new UN report.

The report by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization says that eating insects could help boost nutrition and reduce pollution.

It notes than over 2 billion people worldwide already supplement their diet with insects.

However it admits that "consumer disgust" remains a large barrier in many Western countries.

Wasps, beetles and other insects are currently "underutilised" as food for people and livestock, the report says. Insect farming is "one of the many ways to address food and feed security".

"Insects are everywhere and they reproduce quickly, and they have high growth and feed conversion rates and a low environmental footprint," according to the report.
When we're told that cows are too dangerous because they cause climate change, and I have to order beetle and caterpillar pizzas, I think it will be time for me to turn veggie.

Don't we eat spiders when we're asleep? Not on purpose but I'm sure I read that the little buggers creep in our gobs whilst we kip.

I don't believe the spider myth.... they're much smarter than that. Plus, I'd know immediately if something crawled into my mouth when I was sleeping being a light sleeper :P


I wouldn't eat insects either. Not unless it what was a survival situation.

I don't really believe the spider myth either... that's not to say other creepy crawlies don't go crawling into one's mouth whilst sleeping :O Nah, I don't really believe any insects do that.

Ive already left. :coffee:

Im heading to Zurich to do a deal with Nestle to ship flies by the tonne to their food operations where they will be ground up and powdered, and added to treats. The UN is subsidising me, and you guys wont really taste the difference, in fact Its actually probably better for everyone than all the other stuff they bulk up their food with. :umm:
