There is a whole school of thought that sees greed as a good thing. In fact, what Gordon Gecko said (i.e. greed is good), which was meant as satire, became the clarion call of "conservatives" and it has become almost an accepted idea. Greed is at least seen as "natural". One assumption being that we have one "nature" rather than more than one nature that are often in conflict. Another assumption (or legerdemain flogic) is that whatever instincts we may have must be "good" and obeyed: A rather irrational POV.

I am, of course, referring to the euphemism for greed that is "enlightened self interest". Ayn Rand and her supporters have attempted to bypass any moral, ethical or even practical debate on the question of greed and selfishness. Rather they just proclaim through pseudo science of Social Darwinism (which has FA to do with evolutionary theory), Pop Psychology and misinterpreting terms like the Selfish Gene, which they would have you believe is the DNA that makes us naturally selfish (which it isn't).

The argument that people would have anarchy, if they only truly wanted anarchy would seem to indicate that the people actually receive what they desire.

On that basis, one would expect people to be happy with their lot.

Judging from recent demonstrations and talking to your fellow citizen, does that really seem to be the case?
