Scrapple, also known by the Pennsylvania Dutch name pon haus,[1][2] is traditionally a mush of pork scraps and trimmings combined with cornmeal and flour, often buckwheat flour, and spices. The mush is formed into a semi-solid congealed loaf, and slices of the scrapple are then panfried before serving. Scraps of meat left over from butchering, not used or sold elsewhere, were made into scrapple to avoid waste. Scrapple is best known as a rural American food of the Mid-Atlantic states (Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland). Scrapple and pon haus are commonly considered an ethnic food of the Pennsylvania Dutch, including the Mennonites and Amish. Scrapple is found in supermarkets throughout the region in both fresh and frozen refrigerated cases.

cannae stand haggis myself.(although it was nice from the Pheonix chippy, after 60 pints of that cider from "the rock".

Black-Pudding is lush though, especially the ones from oop north.

Wait a minute, you guys know about meatloaf?

A charming, elderly, English couple came to visit once. We made dinner suggestions, one of which was meatloaf (I was against such a mundane thing but...)

Meatloaf?! They had never heard of such a thing. So, my sis in law made meatloaf for them. They seemed to enjoy it.

That was in the late '90's, maybe early 2000. All this time I thought you guys had no knowledge of meatloaf. I assumed it was a uniquely American thing, and closely guarded national secret.

Scrapple is not actually 'meatloaf' the dish, but I guess from your point of view it's all the same.

Meatloaf consists of hamburger (ground beef, no greater than ground chuck as ground round is too dry for such a venture) and various, diced vegetables of your choice, seasonings, cheese perhaps, tomato sauce (I cheat and use spaghetti sauce as it already has seasonings in it.) an egg, bread crumbs (seasoned), and rice (instant, because it's quick - the loaf only takes an hour to bake and real rice would be crunchy and nasty in such an environment, in a short time) :)

It's not all of us, my not-American friend :king:, I'm weird I guess. I like lemon cake, lemon drops and even lemonade, but that's as far as it goes.

I really tried to be classy and normal with lobster, but just couldn't choke it down without a right smattering of ketchup. I kinda wish marinara was available.
