Need some help...
My 6 year old was stung Monday evening by a black wasp/hornet twice, once on his thigh and once on a finger. I put baking soda and water on to draw the stingers out. Slight redness and no swelling that night; Tuesday morning, red, itchy, very slight swelling; Tuesday Night, mild swelling, red, itchy. Today, red is spreading (up and down his leg), it's swelling to the point it's hard, had a white spot (like a pimple) on it that burst open and pushed the stinger out I assume...his finger is now twice the normal size.
He has been stung once before and no reaction what-so-ever to it, so I had my fingers crossed that he wasn't allergic like me (each time, it's been a worse reaction). He has a slight fever, no headache or body aches, no swelling through the face, no trouble breathing.
I have looked online, some places say soap and water, others say no water as that will cause it to spread; some places say ice packs, others say vinegar. A few pages have said it can last 3-5 days. Some have said a garlic clove and others an onion. You get the picture, each place has something different to say but they all agree on one thing, hospital.
I really do not want to take him to the hospital, a severe allergic reaction would have occurred within the first 10 minutes. I have never gone to the hospital for a sting, and I've had some BAD reactions...I don't know what they would give him or anything and I wouldn't be able to pull it up and figure out what it is before they tried to treat him (I don't trust doctors at the hospital).
I have no idea which website to go by and I am not using my child like a guinea pig testing different things out. So would someone on here, that knows a bit about a black hornet/wasp stings tell me what will work to bring the swelling down and evict whatever poison is in there out?
I've always just suffered through it and its been years since I've been stung so can't remember what was used if anything.
Thanks!
