Its not peddled. Its law.

I have three kids, I know what I'm speaking about because I've had to go through the process to join the PTA.

Ok, I've got children too and I only knew about this because there was a note sent home a few months ago with my youngest child saying 'all' parents who volunteer to help out must be CRB checked. Fine, do it.

I had to have one done to mop up arse fat as a porter in a cosmetic surgery place recently. Quite how any of those bastards where 'vulnerable' though, I don't know.

But anyway...what feather said.

The CRB check just consists of a slip of paper which indicates any criminal record you may have - I think it comes to you, rather than the party that's ordered it, and you're required to hand it over to them. It includes offences which are deemed to have been 'spent'.

I agree 100% that anyone working with kids or vulnerable people should have the check done.

Lots of would-be employers these days insist on a CRB check being done - not just schools.

The problem lies (and there always does seem to be a problem with matters that should be straight-forward) with the potential employer sometimes failing to use common sense.

I was listening to a programme on the radio a few years ago, where people where ringing in to relate their experiences with it.

One example, was a man who'd been refused a job he'd applied for, because his CRB checked revealed that 30 years previously, he'd gone on some form of social report. He hadn't actually been charged with anything, but had gone a bit off the rails for a while as a youngster (a minor) when his single mum had died. I think he'd had a fight in his school playground. He'd pulled himself round, disassociated from the bad company he'd been keeping, and gone on to study successfully and pass exams with flying colours.

There was tale after tale like this, where CRB results were used against people for the flimsiest of reasons.

The only thing I know about Piers is that he's a smarmy sod - didn't he get away with tax fraud or something?

The fact that we are talking about 'Piers Morgan' indicates how far we have progressed as a forum.

And the the talent show, that he was a judge on, that made him seem like the most knowledgeable and critical authority on peoples performances on stage, how did he achieve such a position considering some of the others he was on the show with?

I see your point andy but the point I was making is that Huntly would never have gotten a job as a janitor in the school those two little girls where at, if the check had been in place before they where murdered.

If you are going to be a journalist I think you would require some ruthlessness about you, some are arrogant, but, some people like that in journalism or presenters.
Look at how many people watch Jeremy Kyle and think he is wonderful, I'm surprised he hasn't been chinned. :D

These two should never be seen in the same sentence :D

As far as him being chinned... he's untouchable in a sense at the moment. Once his career starts spirallling down the way, I reckon he'll get plenty of what's coming his way :coffee:
