The main tool of any bully or control freak in physical life is to go after the appearance of their object of ridicule.

That is a classic move of a mean nasty individual, it could be JUST a subtle comment about thinning hair, or choice of clothes, but they know that when they make these comments people become enraged or defensive for the most part, and the jerk has fun in playing their little game.

In relationships it takes on a much more sinister meaning, and can be a life long situation, and has been in many peoples lives. A person having to deal with a controlling abusive partner whose main weapon of this control is verbal ridicule, and the victim never break's free of it , one of the most horrible way's to live in my opinion.
