Back in my,piratic,sea-faring days, were constantly changing the time on board, we called it flogging-clocks. I just depended on where we were going. Sometimes we would even lose a day, or gain a day, if we crossed the date-line. It was weird, but all part of the fun...

If clocks were flogging-back 2 hours...deep joy. Forward? no no no...

So we were having the "Spring forward, fall back" thing at least twice a week.

Would it be fair to say it would be easier to do away with time in this instance as long as each ship knows where the other is 'now' does it really matter what 'time' it is?

Serious question btw.

We were in port very often, so had to set our times to that countries time, so we could maintain normal "stuff".

Does that make sense? or just confuse you more?

Neither.

What 'stuff' needs local time to function?

Time always felt like a strange anomaly to me, too arbitrary. The last watch I owned (25 years ago!) had a black face and black hands, no numbers...I've always had my doubts!

Just counted back to when i stopped wearing watches, 24 years ago. Time shouldn't be timed, and is only felt due to others who time

You get into port, you need unloaded, (plus a milion other things). and the locals have set hours that they work. So you have to work their hours too.

Interesting. Would it be fair to say then that you could operate at sea solely in the 'now'?

Again, interesting.

And with time being arbitrary when in port it could be measured in any pre-agreed way...From sunrise we will be docking after approximately 3 and half plays of Dark Side of the Moon. Although now we are measuring things in musical tempo....

Since I didn't know the clocks were changing till I got up, I had to wait an hour extra than anticipated for the United v Chelski game which seemed to drag.

Not a fan of this time of year. It's fucking cold & dark most of the time & then people start letting fireworks off which frighten the dog to death. :(

My kitchen clock is still an hour ahead.
So I've just had my bonus hour... thought I needed to go bed! Suddenly, I'm all for this. Keep them clocks back!

IT was lush having the extra hour, because I was on a 12 hour day-shift the next day.

But driving home was horrible

Meh... Time zones/time keeping only serves the system (times is money and all that). I think it was a much better practice when different town/areas kept their own time, it was a nightmare to calculate time of arrival, say if you were traveling but that’s what calculators are for :P
