My personal favourite is Christmas.

Fuck christmas...I mean that in a tongue in cheek kind of way, but with a bit of cynicism and anger thrown into the mix.

How can a festival be something that you are angry with?

Unless it is on principle.

For example, I don't like Guy Fawkes because I don't think executing a person 500 years ago is worth celebrating.

I wouldn't call it angry. Just disdain.

What is Christmas?

Well, the definition I am familiar with is an annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

Whether or not this coincides with Saturnalia or other festivals and whether people have used the holiday for commercial purposes, that is what the word Christ-Mass means. Other languages like "Navidad" or "Natale" means birth (of Christ).

If one hates what Jesus Christ struggled for and the words he said, then I would imagine one will hate the true sense of Christmas.

Other than that, I think people hate what Christmas has become and what they let it become.

I'm just angry in general mikey, and I'm using christmas as a punchbag.
If I knew for a fact that Jesus existed, and that he was a good bloke, then I'd be more inclined to perhaps give him a nod, but my mum had midnight mass on last night, and the stuff they were going on about... "he picked up the bread with his holy and venerable hands" I mean ffs! I can't stand all that shit.
I hate the commercial aspect to christmas as well. It seems like to truly enjoy it, you have to be either materialistic, or religious. Having said that, although I have my issues, I feel something today...Christ? The energy of the reborn sun? Happy that I'm going to have a nice dinner with my family?

I was hoping to get a big long walk in the woods in today but having just got over a cold I'm not going out for a bimble in this perpetual downpour.
So I'm largely sitting at the kitchen table watching the birds. As much as I love the pretty Jays, nuthatches and finches I have a massive soft spot for the dunnocks. Crazy little bleeders dunnocks. Chasing each other around in and out of the bushes all the time.
When we first moved in here they were pretty timid where other birds are concerned but nowadays they aint shy of barging their way onto the table

We had a Dunnock's nest in the privets in our front garden years ago. That was when the street was leafy and green, now it's all been ripped up, and brick and iron erected in it's place.

I love Christmas for many reasons. None of them are really religious reasons. From what I know about Jesus he was a good person though. I like seeing my kids enjoy it. I hate the commercial aspect at the same time as I embrace it. Trying to find a balance. There is some nostalgia involved too. Family coming together is nice and especially if nobody gets hurt.
