Venice is awesome too if you go about it right, the train gets from rome to venice in 3hours and 20 minutes or so.

I would suggest Forli...the countyside is breathtaking..It's were I had my, I wouldn't mind dying here moment. :P

Hmmm, depends what holiday mood I'm in. If it's sand, sea and sun I'm spoilt for choice without leaving the country. Weekend break I'd say Barcelona nudges Istanbul. For shear eye opening communist Russia was 'interesting'!

And I have found one island in Greece that I had the feeling I want to be there when I die...very strange. Not the most typically beautiful of the islands but there was something about the place. Most tourists there were returning which says a lot.

Just had a look, wow and lovely. :)

The drive is an experience in itself! Terrific fun!

St Francis of Assisi church/monastery is in Sorento....sitting in the monastic 'garden' and you'd never think you were in the middle of a city

There is only one place in Italy that I would advise you not to go and that is Rimini..it used to be where people went for a beach holiday...many still do, but it's run down and not that nice.

My Gran went to Russia many many years ago (I was still a child) and thought it was beautiful.

I also found it very strange that the thought should pop into my head that I would be content to die in a certain place. Actually the feeling was quite overwhelming.

Sorry, the island is Amorgos. Loads of French tourists because a film The Deep Blue was filmed there.

I've been a few times but the first time was the profound one. Me and mrs oioioi were on the ship, up on deck, waiting to leave. We'd made some good friends, who we are still in touch with, but none of them hung around to see us off or owt. Anyway, as the ship started to pull out I started to fill up like I was leaving a loved one behind and it freaked me out for a short while until it clicked what was causing the emotion.

I had a waist length bright red dreadlock mohican at the time so I was recognisable on my return. When the locals (who are some of the friendliest Greek islanders ever!) asked 'so you like it here...what is it you like?' the response 'I want to die here' got mixed reactions!

It must be great if you're a young single person nowadays if you want to travel.

Eurolines.com do coach travel all over Europe, 15 days for 180 euro.
There's the euro train tickets too but they're bloody complicated.

I was taking a look at some places and having a laugh, its cheaper for me to go on hols with the wife and kids in Bulgaria for a week incl flights and all in (all meals incl and booze!) accommodation than stay a week at centerparcs ffs lol...

Although if they had me there they might draft up a fair use clause on the booze :p

Italy is great. I can recommend visiting Florence and Sienna. Sienna is absolutely beautiful.

Right now, my favourite holiday destination is the Mayenne region in France, but that's because my parents live there. France is also generally nicer than the UK. Who knows, we might go and live there too in a few years time.

Iceland is another favourite because it's a very civilised and safe place. The people are very polite and easy to get on with. You can go anywhere and you don't have to worry about being mugged or having your stuff stolen. Also, the scenery is breath taking.

Germany is another great country. It has the best food, the culture is great, the people are really friendly and there are some really gorgeous places.
