5. He is against gay marriage.
6. Popes red shoes. The retired Benedict has to relinquish his red shoes. He has decided to wear brown loafers made for him in Mexico....maybe we should have gleaned a clue from this as to the region the new pope would come from?

Just not religious.

I went to a sacred heart school when I was a kid, in fact, its probably what got me started with hating religion.
That and my experiences in the middle east.

I hold out some hope for buddhism.

PS, the nearest you will get me to 'religion' is that I have always liked St Francis of Assisi...so I am a little more interested in this particular Pope

I just love catholics, like Timo Soini, fucking catholic NAN party leader.

My Dad was an atheist/humanist, my Mum has no strong beliefs but I think there may be a little trace of "well, I suppose ya never know".

I was the only one of the 4 kids who asked to go to church when I was around 9yrs old. (I've always been a curious git),
My folks were always up for not forcing their beliefs down our necks. They'd discuss something with us and as long as they could see we'd put some thought into it, they'd let us explore more.
I can't recall exactly how long I attended before deciding the sermons were as dull as dishwater and the congregations were all nicey. nice and sanctimonious indoors and nasty, backstabbing, judgemental bastards as soon as the got outside again.
Adults tend to forget kids can hear.

I remember thinking one time it was like a crazy game of hide and seek and if you couldn't find the God dude the punishment is you get toasted forever.
Then you try to square that with the claim he loves you.

Anyhoo, it wasn't for me. As time has gone on I see no reasons to change that.
I know religion gives comfort, focus and purpose to many and I have no interest in denying them any of that.
I do thoroughly object though to anyone getting in my face telling me I'm living wrong and need to repent.
The ambition to spend eternity with those kind of fucknuts just ain't there.
