Seems like you're all pro-smoking... Personally I prefer to eat out without having to contend with smoke drifting across my table all the time, as once was the case. Trouble is with the smokers is they think they have the right to impose their unhealthy habit on others when in fact it's normal to have (relatively) untainted air when eating and drinking.

I can understand that people want to eat and drink without smoke around them. Even outside. Even the 5 meters of an exit/entrance. It is when you can't even find ANY public space. People that follow you into a back yard that had only been opened for smokers and then stand there and mutter about the smoke. When non-smokers complain about smoke in other people's houses at parties when the hosts smoke. I was never wary of vegetarians until I met a few veggie colleagues that invited themselves to dinner and then proceeded to complain about the smell and sight of meat.

I think it's perfectly reasonable for a restaurant to ban smoking if there is a genuine call from its customers to do so, and I would agree that some people who chose to smoke used to be inconsiderate in those circumstances. I don't think this justifies a state mandated ban on smoking in all public places. I think there just needs to be a bit of give and take, a bit of tolerance and a bit of consideration both from people who choose to smoke and those that don't (I don't like the terms 'smokers' and 'non-smokers'; it's just another way of dividing people). We would be a lot better off in general were these basic principles applied by people on all manner of issues.
