I've also been thinking Abs...do you have just a privately owned bicycle shop nearby? If you do, go ask them if they have 'part worns' out back like you can with cars...you never know!

I can't offer any advice Abs, soz.... only empathy.
I relied on my bike heavily for so long & just had to keep on ignoring things going wrong with it. Eventually, I ended up with a bike with -
1 pedal
1 gear
1 slow puncture
2 bald tyres
2 very dodgy brakes
Eventually it expired about 4 miles from home when a full on puncture occurred.... I rode it for a bit longer just on the tyre, then it all went tits up and all the inner tube became wrapped up in the gears.... which meant I couldn't even wheel it along properly.
Then it absolutely pissed it down so hard that there were mini-rivers running down the street, and it was dark.
Had to bite the bullet & get a taxi with bike in t' boot... and he charged me fare and a half! Fucking nightmare!

Quite so, and long shall I continue to do so! :fluffy:

Thanks anyway all. Got myself a swanky new 'silent' type deal on the way home, and it only cost me fifteen quid. :eek2:

No baccy this week then... :bawl:

M'be but there aren't many independants left, for fairly obvious reasons...

However, it is worth keeping old tyres for this very purpose, as you can cut them up and stick a boot into a split to help it hold until you can replace/repair properly. I never had any knocking about though.

Ahh I thought you were about to propose that bike tires were not required in general.
