From what I've been told the decent Barge folk have had a hair raising time of it with ropes being pulled out and boats threatening to float off with the hurricane styled winds (even had a tornado here a few weeks ago and that was pretty mental) as for the barge cunt, I couldn't give a shit how he's doing :thumbup:

The more i ponder on this the more i suspect that there is an intent to let the levels go back to nature. It's already happening with coasts, where areas like studland are being left for the sea to take. Money is usually given as the reason but i'm increasingly thinking the reasons may be ideological.

The idea of it being an emergency is a bit daft really innit. You would be very daft to live there and not have taken measures for flooding...

I feel sorry for people who have had houses built on flood planes during years of no floods and they were not made aware of the risks. But you are right about people who buy property near rivers and in places known to flood. If it was me I would have stone floors downstairs, with rugs and furniture I know I can move upstairs. I would also install flood barriers on all the doors and keep a supply of sandbags.

I think that's the issue tbh. I'm sure people who live and have businesses there may have just assumed things would never get that bad, given the years of relatively fair conditions and management they may have become used to.

The long and short of it is, there really was no real need for this to happen. As you point out though, it's called a floodplane for good reason.
