I was chatting to some religious type people the other day and it was all going well (quite an interesting discussion) and then suddenly one of them mentioned "the Heavenly Father" and how involving "him" is important. Well I have nothing against people choosing to be religious, but my eyes just suddenly glazed over and...........I think he recognised the look :O I tried my best to look interested but I just.....couldnt. And it was all going SOOO well :emb: :D

But yes sometimes I recognise when people are closed minded but only after I have discussed things with them. If they are closed minded, then I tend to discuss something that THEY are interested in. Sometimes though they have absolutely ZERO interests and it's quite difficult.

Why not trust your "gut", for an eternity, about everything and think rarely, on occasion?

I trust mine all the time and it never lets me down ;)

Thanks for sharing this video, Rick. :)
Form is merely a momentary manifestation of being, not a fixed reality.

History doesn't repeat itself, uninformed people repeat history.

To all progressive endeavors great or small, come unforeseen benefits on a scale larger than most give pause or contemplation of.

Steevo, did you feel that the person was moving into the evangelical direction? I speak of evangelical Christians, they usually speak that way is why I ask.

Some 'religions' recognize that 'God' is neither male nor female, but just is.

Only because language is limited is why gender is assigned......or because of patriarchal concepts?

Some beliefs call 'God', in the common perception, 'it'.

I made the mistake recently of being overly nice to some jehovah witnesses, the old lady was really nice. The only problem is that they now come round all the time with copies of the Watchtower for me. Whenever they pop over it's during the week and I'm working, I don't know why I feel guilty, but I do. Maybe if they pop over and I'm not busy Ill invite them in for a cuppa and a chat.

As for wether you can instantly recognise closed minded people, I don't think so. Or, more accurately, most people are closed minded about certain things. Someone might seem open minded and then they make a derogatory comment about homosexuals, transgender people or something like that. People all have their own prejudices, I feel I am to judgemental too, it's something I'm working on.

If you write someone off as Closed minded, doesn't that make you closed minded? We never really get to see anyones internal landscape.

Hi Coco :)
The people I were speaking to were Mormons. Nice people alot of them, but obviously their mind cannot USUALLY go beyond a certain point (closed minded ?). I still use the word "god" and may also refer to god in the masculine, but like you say Coco, it's due to our vocab being limited, and it's just quick and easy to use inacurate words/desciptions, even though when saying the words, I am aware of the possible inacuracies. Being aware is the key really, but it's best to use the right vocab if you can. Using incorrect vocab is ONE of the reasons why politicians are able to lie, and then so easily be able to squirm out of it.
