I read in the Metro today that the council switched off the power whilst Springstein was doing a concert in London. See below. The interesting bit for me was that Springstein's guitarist was quoted in the Metro as saying something like "How long has Britain been a police state" - Unfortuately for some strange reason, that quote is not in the online version (below) :-
Bruce Springsteen cut short at Hard Rock Calling for 'health and safety'
Bruce Springsteen and Sir Paul McCartney had the plug pulled on them when they breached a curfew at Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park, London; which festival organisers have since explained was in the interest of public safety.

Defending the decision which was met with outrage over Twitter, an event organiser for Live Nation said: 'It was unfortunate that the three hour plus performance by Bruce Springsteen was stopped right at the very end but the curfew is laid down by the authorities in the interest of the public’s health and safety.

'Road closures around Hard Park are put in place at specific times to make sure everyone can exit the area in a safety.'

The former Beatle joined Springsteen on stage for the climax of his headline set and they performed I Saw Her Standing There together.

The legends then launched into Twist And Shout, but the sound was cut when they finished the song and they were unable to address the crowd.

Springsteen had been due to finish at 10:15pm, but his customary marathon set - which also included guest performances from John Fogerty and Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello - overran and went past the 10:30pm 'noise curfew' for the event.

Westminster Council said Hard Rock Calling's organisers had taken the decision to cut the sound.

'Tonight's Hyde Park Concert was finished by organisers. They were sticking to their licence for the event,' it said via its Twitter account.

Fans were unhappy about the development and vented their anger on the microblogging site.

Actor Stephen Merchant tweeted: 'Ashamed to be British right now. Springsteen and McCartney playing Twist & Shout in Hyde Park and council pulled the plug cos of curfew. WTF.'

McFly's Dougie Poynter said: 'The guy that just pulled the plug on Springsteen and McCartney will not be getting laid tonight.'

The Boss also ran into curfew problems when he headlined Glastonbury in 2009 and organisers were fined £3,000 after his performance overran.

Watch this brilliant video of Springstein in concert in 1985 giving what I would call an anti-government speech to the young (gulible) people in the audience. He starts talking about 50 seconds into the video. He then immediately follows it with "War" by Edwin Starr. It's pretty powerful stuff.

Cheers Ab, here is the full quote from the intro to that live song :-
"If you grew up in the 60s, you grew up with war on tv every night. A war that your friends were involved in...and I want to do this song tonight for all the young people, if you're in your teens... because I remember a lot of my friends when they we were 17 or 18, we didn't have much of a chance to think about how we felt about a lot of things. And the next time, they're gonna be looking at you, and you're gonna need a lot of information to know what you're gonna wanna do. Because in 1985, blind faith in your leaders, or in anything, will get you killed. Because what I'm talking about here is:
War!
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing....
