US President Obama has unveiled the most sweeping gun control proposals in two decades, setting up a showdown with firearms rights advocates.

He called for a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines and wider background checks on gun buyers.

A month after last month's school massacre in Connecticut, he said gun-control reforms could wait no longer.

Mr Obama unveiled the proposals at the White House on Wednesday, flanked by children who wrote him letters after December's Newtown shooting, which left 20 children and six teachers dead.

As always there will now be some bullshit political theatre, as indicated here by the BBC's 'North American editor':
It is hard to see how the ban on assault rifles will get past Republican (and indeed some Democratic) opposition in Congress.

Of course, things that need to get past the Senate and the Congress always do (see the supposed 'fiscal cliff''crisis). Not to mention the fact that Obama has already...
signed 23 executive actions, which do not require congressional approval.

Thanks but I don't really care about guns anymore.

If I ever did.

To what purpose do you want guns?

I don't. I'd rather live in a world in which there were no guns. Here are the US police, though. Not the military, the police:

Think they'll only turn up on your doorstep like that with good cause? Guess again:

www.trutv.com/library/crime/blog/2012/12...lebrities/index.html
On October 10, an LAPD swat team was called out to mansion in Calabasas to subdue a gunman who allegedly fired a gun several times, threatening the residents’ lives. The police swarmed the home to find nothing. The home’s owner, Justin Bieber, was out on tour.

Just so you Brits know those cops are not a walk the streets kind of unit. They are a unit trained to deal with armed criminals and people whoight have things like ' assault weapons'. I understand people not wanting the police state to out gun them but if your government had nukes what do you have to counter? I remember seeing a documentary that showed a gang controlled area that the police would not even go into. I know cops are considered "bad" and I understand that and agree that they are used as a strong arm for the state etc etc but the fact is that if you get robbed or raped you will probably call the cops and sure they might not do much for you in such cases but they are humans doing a very tough job. Some people just see the Alex Jones side of issues and neglect the details.

Personally I think gun regulations are a good idea and I don't see why people need assault weapons.

I'm fully aware that those are SWAT teams. Are you aware that SWAT teams get called on regular folk all the time, and have abused their position many times over completely trivial issues? There are literally hundreds of example, but here's one:

Are you aware of the extent that the US police has been militarised particularly since the completely bogus 'War on Terror' began?

www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/201...d-the-police/248047/
How the War on Terror Has Militarized the Police

Over the past 10 years, law enforcement officials have begun to look and act more and more like soldiers. Here's why we should be alarmed
That's not Infowars, that's not a 'conspiracy site', that's The Atlantic, founded in 1857.

Obama is not introducing gun legislation because he cares about the safety of the public! He's just a front man for the establishment. He decides nothing. He's already bought and paid for. This is the same establishment that rubber stamped so many atrocities that I haven't got time to list them, but here are a few:

It amazes me how little people understand their own society. How long are people going to keep sucking it up without question?

I really hate debating. But I just have to say, if I- a law abiding citizen- wants to own an assault rifle then I should be able to. I'm not going to go shoot up a mall. Criminals will always have access to them. You cannot un-invent them.

You never know what the future holds. We don't know how the military/police force will evolve; when or if "the shit" will hit "the fan" but if it did & some crazed survivalists are roaming around with weapons; it would be nice to have an assault rifle.

Sure, I don't trust the government but I also don't trust the people living in my community. Like the Twilight Zone episodes where it's the neighbors you have to worry about("Monsters on Maple Street" & the one about the family with the only bomb shelter).

Anyway, everyone's entitled to their opinions- I just don't want those opinions fucking with my rights. Besides, there are so many beautiful countries that have strict gun laws...

Oh, also want to agree that most cops aren't too bad- at worst they are on a power trip. I have heard horror stories, though & times they are a changing'...so who knows?

Also, just heard about how a 3D printer was used to make a semi automatic rifle. Right now, these printers only use plastic but they are fairly new on the market. Still, even with plastic, they supposedly shot 6 rounds before it broke. Pretty impressive for a first try.

By ignoring certain details and facts you paint a dishonest picture of reality. You are like AJ jr or one of his Watson boys.

You listened to those two videos that last for four hours and are all 100% documented fact very quickly, I must say.

Appeal to authority.
Trust the state.
Do not trust law abiding citizens.
Criminals who don't give a shit about guns and who will kill you long before a cop arrives don't matter.

An authoritarian solution to fix people who do not obey authority is bonkers.
Sure we could all do with fewer (ideally none at all) guns in the world but we won't get there by looking to politicians to fix it.

The motive for guns is fear, fear of criminals and fear of government and right now both are on the rampage. Remove those 2 issues and you remove the guns.

There are a few who want to own our whole, using the wholely hypnotised in order of obtaining it, ask yourself the question, are you contributing towards that paradigm? In what form and what one can do to even the situation without using violence.

There was a few clues in the video I posted earlier.

There is a way to halt the rotten core, but the majority continue to walk upon childerick, another clue there.

All those weapons are useless without rounds, if they wanted them in all they need to do is stop selling rounds to the people they want to take down.

If your rifle really means that much to you, simply swap it for a real rifle, not a Rambo lookalike, while you still can, the rounds will also last longer.

Look in the right places, some are, some are not.

Sure, but how do you go about removing those*?
*Criminals and government (that are often interchangeable terms ;) )

I’ll give you an example, we all know the BBC is a monopolistic, corrupt, quasi-criminal organization. Far easier to depose than the political system, what is being done about it? There’s a lot of angry people out there, specially now after the whole Savile thing. There’s your catalyst event. Perfect time to pile on the pressure and get rid of them. Dead easy to achieve as well, all people need to do is pick up a phone and cancel their license.
Yet, nothing substantial is happening. The fuse’s been lit but the gun powder is wet.

Absolutely criminals and govt are 2 interchangeable terms.
Obama himself has presided over further wiretapping, rendition, gitmo, still in afghanistan, still in iraq, murdering US citizens...the list goes on and on.

There's shitloads of angry people now for numerous reasons, the squeeze is really coming on hard and you have to wonder.
The savile thing is the least of it, we then have the priests in on it, politicians the whole f*cking establishment, we have bankers raping and plundering the planet for chrissake, new laws leading to dictatorial regime and global empire, pollution of the planet at insane levels in canada and china, people starving to death in their thousands, bully boys roaming thrid world countries and murdering thousands, meanwhile people get their knickers in a twist over a single incident because its in their own backyard or whine and whinge about CO2 ffs.

What irks me most is the lack of perspective. There are real problems in the world and I've listed them in a separate thread.
I've yet to see anyone even so much as try and suggest they're not the most important problems we face. So why are we not addressing those problems first?

I hear you ;) , but I like the ‘one at the time’ approach. What people need is a win, that would get the ball rolling. The BBC is a weak link, and they’re even in a weaker position now because of what happened. And don’t forget that they are the main propaganda mouth piece for the establishment, so if you manage to get rid of them, you’re also knocking down the brainwashing effect they’re having on people therefore enabling more independent thinking.
