The Spectator starts using the term "anti-Western saboteurs"
Like Julian Assange, Snowden, Greenwald et al fall into that class of person who when people ask, 'who has the right to know' answers 'we do.' In particular they think that they know better than any security service what should and should not be in the public domain and how best a country should carry out surveillance. Except they don't. And it's not their point anyway. None of these new 'freedom of information' campaigners are 'journalists' working for this or any high-minded goal. They are simple saboteurs with an increasingly clear and specific anti-Western agenda. It is wrong to say that they don't care how hampered our intelligence services might be as a result. They do care. They want them to be hampered.

The author: Douglas Kear Murray (born 16 July 1979) is a British neoconservative writer, journalist and commentator. He was the director of the Centre for Social Cohesion from 2007 until 2011, and is currently an associate director of the Henry Jackson Society.

The which Society?
The Society, a think tank and political action committee, is based at the University of Cambridge and aims to promote 'democratic geopolitics'[citation needed]. Many of its supporters are among the most powerful people in Britain and the United States, including the former directors of the MI6 and CIA, the former President of Lithuania, a reem of British MPs, and a number of editorial staff from various newspapers The secretive nature of the society is perhaps evidence of its considerable political influence.

Dan hodges on a second article in the Torygraph.

A journalist's partner spending a few hours at Heathrow is a price worth paying for national security

Some of the comments are quite outside the readership
Desperate 'Dan' Hodges - the brown noser's brown noser.
sssssssllllllllluuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrppppppppppp and right up the establishments ringpiece. "will you accept me as one of yours now Mr Editor?"
Dan Hodges is a jealous little authoritarian tool. And the thing he is jealous about is the fact that there is more journalism in one Glenn Greenwald twitter exchange than there is in the entire writing career of this "tribal loyalist".

This article is another useless waste of pixels, as always, and not worth commenting on except to ridicule it, but one thing must be mentioned: the way he invokes Tora Bora near the end of this pathetic screed - insinuating that since Glenn Greenwald is collaborating with Edward Snowden who apparently "may" have leaked data to Al Qaeda ergo Glenn Greenwald is collaborating with Al Qaeda - is a real new low.

Can you go any lower than this Danny boy? Come on, you look like you can. Keep us amused with your uselessness and petty vindictiveness towards proper journalism.
Is Hodges really so stupid that he can't grasp that using for other purposes laws intended to deal with terrorists is an abuse of state power?

Does he lack the wit to understand that this kind of abuse makes a mockery of the rule of law?

The power to lock someone up arbitrarily (no suspicion is required for the exercise of powers under this law), to criminalise non-cooperation, and to search and/or confiscate his possessions is a profound one. If the state cannot be trusted not to abuse it in this way, then the state cannot be trusted with this power at all.

The UK regime has abused supposed "anti-terror" laws for other purposes before. Sooner or later, letting such abuse by with a nod and a wink will lead to disaster.

The question remains open, though. Does Hodges genuinely not grasp the point, or is he too dishonest to admit it?

Indeed Bush's "Why do you hate America?" has now become Obama's "Why do you hate the West?"

Anti-American now is Anti-Western

Terrorists used to be Muslims but now they're journalists and whistle blowers.

Indeed the statement from the Home Office today said: "Those who oppose this sort of action need to think about what they are condoning. "

Do I detect a veiled threat?

Oh, we know who needs to think about what they are fucking condoning! The joke is that many of the sucky-up defenders of this shit are just as bloody vulnerable to being turned on & stitched up when it suits Big Brother as everybody else. They're giving up just as much liberty as the rest of us. They just seem to think their subservience will buy them favour. Idiots!

I agree. However, their motivation is twofold. For a long time their instinct to be spiteful to people in their society has been curbed by legal and social rules. They often refer to this as "political correctness" but that is a misnomer. Of course, nobody who is truly against the censorship elements of PC would support the clampdown on investigative journalism. No. What they call PC is actually something that has been around a lot longer.: i.e. reactions of disgust and fear in the face of spite, cruelty and hate. Now, as the government become spiteful and cruel, they receive a vicarious relief and pleasure as the people that they have longed to be cruel to, actually suffer.
