Not sure... probably when digging for the alien coverups uncovered the political coverups (MK-Ultra, Project Monarch, Project Paperclip, 32 of the US presidents being blood related (possibly more), the Queen of England being a lizard (thus non-human, alien)...etc...).
I came into this world kicking and screaming while covered in someone elses blood
and I have no problem with going out the same way

Lol. Well, while I don't know about Sean, but I know have I have collided with many a wall (and not because I think I got the vibration to pass through it :chuckle: ).

Never seen the movie you mention, might have to check into it (or is it a horrible film not worth watching?).

The classics JFK,Roswell,Majestic 12,now that was conspiracy, except majestic 12 I don't think got the attention it deserved. Now you have individual agendas, and these agendas get mean and nasty, and many are not based in any fact or supposed real truthful information. imo

I think you guys nailed it already... UFO researchers noticed somebody's got interest over hiding this stuff.

Did anybody mention project blue book?

When did conspiracy theorists start off as alien researchers and moon landing hoax exposers?

There was lots of material exposing the federal reserve, Rothschilds, Free masons, illuminati and much, much more for decades and centuries previously.

When did truth seekers become conspiracy theorists?

Jesus was a truth / conspiracy exposer, as were the OT prophets and famous names from various cultures (a very long and varied list).

There have been conspiracies for as long as mankind has been "civilized" and there have been people opposed to those conspiracies for just as long. The variety of possible topics now and in the past is incredibly large. Your lists reflect your own personal impressions at this particular time and will differ from mine or even your own in a year or so.

Conspiracies exist. They always did and they always will at every possible level of society, but some are more insiduous, widespread and persistent than others. It's up to each one of us to set our own priorities and focus on what we feel is the most pertinent to us as individuals at any point in time.

From what I have seen, most seem(ed) to jump on the UFO first, then find out about everything else...

There has been a lot of MSM articles about conspiracy theories lately, and there was a documentary on one of the specialty TV channels the other night.

It's a catch all isn't it? It's a way of stopping any real debate, or people looking for satisfactory answers to pertinent questions. "You're a conspiracy theorist". And that's it. "You are one of 'those' who is never satisified, always believing there is more to a story"..... :chuckle: etc.... I wouldn't call Bigfoot or UFO sightings "conspiracy theory", they are Fortean events, and there are many people who have had these experiences. I would say that governments do "conspire" to muddy the waters in regards to UFO's because they don't want us to know the types of technology that the military has at their disposal, and why they would use this technology against us. That's a conspiracy theory, but it's not far fetched.... it just clashes with people who love to lock their mind around a simple answer.

9 - 11 is probably the biggest of the "conspiracy theories" because most people can't rationalize how 2 planes brought down 3 buildings, how there was no plane at the Pentagon or at Shanksville PA, how hijackers who didn't appear on manifests took over airplanes with locking cockpit doors armed only with boxcutter knives, how cell phone calls were made air to ground 3 years prior to the technology being made availabe for that to happen...... on and on. Too many plot holes, the story falls apart under any type of serious scrutiny, An obvious conspiracy, like JFK, where multiple shots were fired from different angles and it was pinned on one man..... these I would call conspiracies. The obvious attempt of a world takeover by a cabal of bankers, industrialists and landowners is unfolding in front of our eyes. Of course we have theories about these conspiracies, because some people dare to think outside the box, and question stories that don't cover the whole picture. They need real answers, ones that make sense. Some are content to accept that maybe it's better to not know certain truths, some people need to know. Some trust the government, most people don't. They lie. They lie about taxation, they lie about debt, they lie about where our money is going.... they lie about military endeavours. On and on.

Governments lie to us all the time. We'd be insane to not question them. Newspapers and the MSM lie to us too, or at least don't tell the whole story -- we have every right to know if we are so inclined. We'd be insane to not question the drivel in the MSM too.

:dunno:
The Oxford English Dictionary records the first use of the phrase "conspiracy theory" to a 1909 article in The American Historical Review.[16][17] Other sources pre-date this use by nearly four decades to at least 1871, where it is used in The Journal of mental science reporting on a conference of the Fifth Quarterly Meeting of the Medico-Psychological Association (now the Royal College of Psychiatrists), held on Thursday, January 27th, 1870:

"The theory of Dr. Sankey as to the manner in which these injuries to the chest occurred in asylums deserved our careful attention. It was at least more plausible that the conspiracy theory of Mr. Charles Beade, ..."[18]

Thanks cc but that would appear to be from the 70's, the below precedes it.

Thanks stars, also from the wiki:
Originally a neutral term, since the mid-1960s it has acquired a somewhat derogatory meaning, implying a paranoid tendency to see the influence of some malign covert agency in events

That's what I was expecting!

I was showing Mrs oioioi a YT clip about the Tavistock Institute and discovered that they were (apparently) behind The Beatles, I then got to wondering if all the P.I.D. and other 'conspiracies' around The Beatles were done purposely before the "moon landings" in order to have in place a pre-conceived idea of "conspiracy theorists" as pot smoking, tripping hippies.

Seems I may have had a point!

I still don't think we should limit the "history of the conspiracy theorist" to the documented use of the specific term "conspiracy theorist".

The revealing of Freemasonic influences in the United States by William Morgan in the early 19th Century led to the forming of the anti-masonic party. It also led to the disappearance (most likely murder of) William Morgan. We can therefore count William Morgan as one of the conspiracy theorists who paid for the exposure of a conspiracy with his life.

I think the phrase "conspiracy theorist" should be broken up and defined separately... just so we know the meaning of both words, and why they are together in a phrase. Maybe it's just me, but it makes sense to understand the individual words contained in the phrase to add a bit more understanding of the phrase itself.
Conspiracy:
con·spir·a·cy (kn-spîr-s)
n. pl. con·spir·a·cies
1. An agreement to perform together an illegal, wrongful, or subversive act.
2. A group of conspirators.
3. Law An agreement between two or more persons to commit a crime or accomplish a legal purpose through illegal action.
4. A joining or acting together, as if by sinister design: a conspiracy of wind and tide that devastated coastal areas.

I do believe the definition of "conspiracy" is limited to defining the word in bad light as someone, or a group of people, could just as easily be conspiring to commit an act of good nature IMO.
Theorist:
n
the originator of a theory; a person who is concerned with theory; a theoretician
(a person who forms theories or who specializes in the theory of a particular subject.
See also: Ideas, Learning
)
Theory

A scientific theory summarizes a hypothesis or group of hypotheses that have been supported with repeated testing. A theory is valid as long as there is no evidence to dispute it. Therefore, theories can be disproven. Basically, if evidence accumulates to support a hypothesis, then the hypothesis can become accepted as a good explanation of a phenomenon. One definition of a theory is to say it's an accepted hypothesis.

So a theory is a guess at what happened based on limited evidence and the person, or people, making the guess with the information/evidence that they have are theorists, who can be proven wrong... still has a backing in possible fact, the information and/or evidence they are working with...and it is connected to "learning". (yeah, I know the last one has to do with the scientific method, but I think scientific method can be applied to just about any process of study, learning, and research)

"Conspiracism serves the needs of diverse political and social groups in America and elsewhere. It identifies elites, blames them for economic and social catastrophes, and assumes that things will be better once popular action can remove them from positions of power. As such, conspiracy theories do not typify a particular epoch or ideology

As a kid I always thought that a conspiracy theorist was someone who looked into the official story as told by governments and others coming from a position of power where they could see anomalies and inconsistencies - where there was evidence of a cover up or where real life experience of something led to a questioning.

Nowadays bar a few subjects conspiracy is mostly social commentary. Anything that people think shouldnt be 'allowed' is somehow turned into a nefarious plot or scheme.
Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known.

As with all markets the people in marketing take over. People see an opportunity to make money or something perhaps. You know the whole conspiracy thing is big business. Not sure of the history of the phrase but in these times people buy dvd`s direct. You don`t need to be published by a big company, you can do it yourself. I remember getting into Bill Hicks and ordering this vhs of an alex jones thing. It was my first taste of Alex. At the time I saw that he was no Bill Hicks but didn`t fully realize how right wing he was. I was young I guess. I think you see from watching his stuff that of course he has political bias. When you deal with political conspiracy it seems obvious that it becomes right versus left etc. The many different angles of approach(religious conspiracy, money and control power conspiracy, nationalistic freedom taking conspiracy etc). I think you just encounter lots of different groups all after the market share. Being discredited could be financial death.

I grew up on ufo`s and aliens with my dad being into them. I think there was perhaps a time when people thought politics was fairly straight forward and if not honest at least honest by today`s standards. Well maybe. I think there have always been conspiracies and always been lights in the sky so really the only change is the way it is handled and shared around.

Today we have internet and dvd through the mail. Yesterday we had vhs through the mail and before that we maybe had the guy at the pub. I hope this ramble makes sense I am tired and should be asleep.
