There were two contestants..one called Joseph....sings Whole lotta love, Led Zep

and Melanie (my fav cos she's a fairy too!) who sang Janice Joplins Cry Baby

Enjoy, I think they are worth it and will be interesting to see if they allow rock through in bootcamp!

However good they may be Jane, you really need shooting for actually watching x factor in the first place, so on that basis alone you score fuck-all :D

The fairy certainly did Janice real good... more so as that's an extremely hard song to sing. I liked her.

It's still just the same old karaoke schtick the entire Cowell franchise is based on.
I never brings anything new to the table.
It rapes and pillages class material and sells you back cheap plastic replicas.

Who judges this stuff?
Those door kicking innovators;
Louis Walsh who gave us Boyzone & Westlife
Gary Barlow - Take That
Tulisa Contostavlos - N-Dubz, (yeah N-Dubz)

As for the backstory smaltzy "for the kid" stuff? Puleeeze!

I'm disappointed in you Jane, very disappointed. :bash: ;)

Here's Joss Stone posing and pretending she 'gets' Janice. (sorry you have to sit through that to get my point) :(
Then Melissa Etheridge just 'getting' Janice. (This performance was 2 weeks after chemo btw, hence the baldness.)

Yep, I gave Joseph's rendition of the lemon song a few minutes of my time, and have admittedly heard worse.

But really...the x factor...come on girl get a grip.... ;)

Led Zeppelin goes 80's hair metal

The sooner shows like the X Factor fizzle out the better :)

There's no originality, everything is just an interpretation of a copy of a copy of a take. I think it's over really, for music I mean. Music peaked in the 70's, it's all been downhill since then. The 90's showed a bit of promise with "grunge", but that had died out by the end of the decade.

I'll explore today's music more actually, it can be one of my new projects, to seek out a truly talented modern day band. Even if they are heavily influenced by bands of the past, as long as their interpretation is original and unique then I'll be fairly content.

Although on a positive note regarding the above performances from the X Factor, it might get kids and young people to look at the source material, and subsequently blow their little minds. It will let them see what music used to be like, how things used to be :)

Hmmmm....maybe this is why I like gardening, I don't mind looking amongst the nettles for the odd wild strawberry.
So barring Irre's last comment, which I totally agree with, some of you think I am a complete idiot for watching XF? No constructive comments like Irre's last one?
Dear oh dear, It's only a cheap game show, but all the same, all I was trying to do was give praise where it's due, and point out a couple of flowers amongst the weeds......didn't expect to end up in the middle of the briar patch!

It's just a bit of entertainment when it comes down to it Jane :)
I used to watch the odd episode myself, when my mum had it on :umm:
I think some of the better singers in past shows have been plants, so they make sure they get a few good singers to balance out the majority of pap and the deluded. It's all pure entertainment, and we all like to be entertained.
I think people just hear the words The X Factor, and they get a bit hot, veins start popping out on foreheads, "The X Factor? That shite! Music isn't what it used to be! :oldfart: :bla: :chuckle:
I think it's mainly women who watch it, and it's mainly men that love to hate it and have a good rant about it. Also Jane I think the jibes and prodings above are meant in good humour as I'm sure you know :)
As an aside, when I have watched the crap :oldfart: on the rare occasion, I've comented on the contestens, and then Simon Cowell has said the same thing as me, almost word for word :O I'm the next Simon Cowell! :O :noway:
I have an ear and eye for talent :D

Ok I succumbed - there is only so many documentaries a girl can listen to whilst crocheting after all.

Have to say I am both amazed and appalled by the xfactor - there are some talented individuals on there and some beautiful voices - the fact that they are going to be squished into paint by number boxes and stripped of all individuality in the quest for £ makes me a sad bunny - but I can appreciate the talent there for sure - ella's voice gave me goosebumps.
Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known.

As you don't watch it, you wont now about this contestant, Lucy Spraggan, who so far has performed all her own stuff right from the
off
Her audition

Her first live performance

And for thoreau...Ella's audition...a song she wrote herself and she's only 16!

The one thing I really like about the xfactor is that I've never seen an episode or even watched a clip of that pile of shag.

If I want karaoke I'll pop down my local on a Friday night. Friday night is wailing banshee night down the Red Lion.

I'm sorry, am I missing something? I am not a supporter of the concept of the X Factor, however, your comment baffles me...you can make such a statement and at the same time declare you have never watched it? I take it you haven't watched any of the clips, or even bothered to read the comments here, including my response to Irre about people presenting their own material.

I can honestly say I have never been/attended a karaoke evening, BUT, I can also appreciate that there is some amazing talent out there and sometimes all they need is a few pints to get up here and perform, thus giving them the CONFIDENCE they need to try performing when they are sober.

I can't sing, but by the broad sweep of a brush I should be able to being Welsh, neither can I write and compose songs, so I appreciate people who do have a talent for this.

No, you're not missing something. It's called my opinion.

My opinion of the xfactor is based on knowing production staff who have worked on the show. The show is nothing about talent it's all about making money. It's a contrived soap opera that takes pride in building people up - off camera where staff will tell contestants how wonderful they are - and knocking them down all for the sake of good television.
I don't doubt there are talented singers but the show is all about making money and nothing more.

If someone has a talent for singing (a genuine talent) then they are better off trying to find a showcase audition - plenty of them about - and going to one to show their ability. If they are good they will be offered work. It might be session singing, it might be theatre work but there are oppotunities for folk with good singing voices that don't require you to be humiliated by Cowell and his cronies.
I hope that helps.
