For those who may not have heard of Pat or seen his many vids on youtube, a brief introduction...

Pat Condell is an outspoken atheist who has made and still makes videos talking about the issues around, and the problems caused by, ALL organised religions. He is also passionate about freedom of speech.

I've also got a similar Pat Condell video thread going on over at TZ...however in this thread over here I shall refrain from posting his more ''controversial'' videos.

I suppose this one...'God the psycho' might seem at first glance to be controversial and possibly insulting to religious people, but really its not at all. Listen carefully in particular to what Pat says from around 4 minutes in...its spot on.

Interesting video - in many ways I agree with some of the statements made - my issue as ever with people who take a more extreme view is that he appears to cherry pick those parts of the bible which reinforce his beliefs.

I have read the bible many times and yes there are some disturbing things in there from a humane perspective - but there are also some very loving and compassionate verses to be found.

I suppose we all take what we wish to from such things as religion - it is used as an excuse for atrocities - it is used to do good deeds - often history shows that good intentions lead to not so good outcomes.

I shall perhaps listen to some of these more 'controversial' videos in order to get a greater understanding of where his views really lie.

But yeah interesting.

This video is a good starting point thoreau. Its one of my favourites of his...I really couldn't add anything to what he says in this one. (I've posted it here and elsewhere before). Hope you enjoy...

I agree completely with his condemnation of anti-semitism. I am mikey-kosher-goyim-mikey, after all.

But he seems to have swung the other way.



I personally think that the man should spend more time examining the merits of atheism and the drawbacks of religions, rather than the misdeeds of what he deems the religious. Like Dawkins, he confuses and conflates the barbarism inherint in human cultures with the teachings of a religion.

I personally have a lot of time for the atheist Julian Baggini. He has an excellent book which, although I have differences of belief and opinion with, I think is a much more rational approach than the one brought by the populists like those abaove.

hey i dont know much about this guy. i thought he was a bit of a douche bag last time, but he has good points.
whats his opinions on other religions, like buddhists etc
religions are good for some people if they can transcend the dogmas of it and pick out whats really meaningful. it s like there is secrets in religion, and its hidden by all this bullshit of hate. you know, the pope seems like the #1 example of a person who is imprisoned by materials. the crazy baptists, the exploding muslims etc. i dont think those guys get it.
but theres something out there, i want to find it someday.
