You know, I'm really disappointed LightGiver. If you had come up with some sort of thoughts and comments about all the different aspects you have posted...we could have had a really interesting thread here.
But hey ho...what can one expect when you gave the thread a misleading title I guess. :D

Richard Burton was born Richard Walter Jen kins in the village of Pontrhydyfen, Neath Port Talbot, Wales. He grew up in a working class, Welsh-speaking household, the twelfth of thirteen children...His father, also named Richard Walter Jenkins, was a short, robust coal miner, a "twelve-pints-a-day man" who sometimes went off on drinking and gambling sprees for weeks. Burton later claimed, by family telling, that "He looked very much like me...That is, he was pockmarked, devious, and smiled a great deal when he was in trouble. He was, also, a man of extraordinary eloquence, tremendous passion, great violence..."Burton showed a talent for English and Welsh literature at grammar school, and demonstrated an excellent memory...

Katherine Jen kins was born in Neath, Wales, where she and her sister Laura were raised by their parents Selwyn John and Susan...
Jenkins is a surname that originated in Cornwall, England, but came to be popular in southern Wales. The name "Jenkin" originally meant "little John" or "son of John". The "kin" portion is of Dutch origin (-kijn), which then gained a certain popularity in England...A Welsh form of the name is Siencyn. "Jenkin" or "Jenkins" and variants should not be construed as shortened forms of "Jenkinson", which denotes "the son of little John."..

I don't get why you're being critical, Jane. He's giving a collage of different aspects of Welsh art and facts, which are each interesting in their own right.

I've made a small 'note' in your post Gilly
I'm not being critical Gilly...show me where I have been critical please?
I believe I am the only Welsh member on the forum, and Welsh speaking to boot (being totally bi-lingual).
So Lightgiver, as I have said, has posted numerous you tube and wikepedia links with no comments/opinions/questions...what is the point?
As I said, if he could give some indication as to what vampires have to do with Wales, I would be happy to engage. If he has viewpoints or questions about his other posts I would love to see them.
Are you telling me that the best you can come up with is question my non-existent criticism without passing some comment about some of the posts he has made?
I have been waiting for LG to come up with why he has started this thread, is there's some sort of connection between the links...cos the vampire one alone has me baffled! I would happily engage in discourse.
All he has managed is some feeble rhetoric.
Yes, I might sound as though I am interpreting this thread as a 'have a go at the 'Welsh'. What else am I supposed to assume when no link is made between all these posts? Well, we seem to be having a go at everybody else on this forum tonight...so bring it on! That is not aimed at you Gilly...that's at LightGiver.....my arse!

I just see it as his posting style, it's not exclusive to this thread. And tbh I like it, it's refreshingly new. I often make an OP with a quote and a link and no opinion....I generally crack and offer an opinion further into the thread, LG is less inclined.

I don't need to show you where you're being critical, Jane - just go back & read your own posts in it, which are :poke: . He's doing his own thing, and I'm liking it. Your Welshness doesn't give you a platform to dictate the template for how a thread should run on the subject. At no point did I interpret it as having a go at the Welsh.

Though he may wish to explain to you perhaps what the vampire connection is seeing as you've asked a couple of times

Sorry Gilly, but lets say LG started a thread about England, Terry Wogan and the Floral Dance brass band, Stonehenge, etc and suddenly threw vampirism into the mix...wouldn't your wtf radar be lit?
I am quite happy to engage in pros and cons of posts, but I really can't get my head around post after post of you tube and wikipedia links that are so random, that I can't get my head round what he is trying to say to be able to engage. My problem, I accept...but what a waste of space when each and every one of us could do the same random postings....but have no view point?.....Get real girl!
So I guess I have answered my own question....random links with no opinions mean diddly squat..... so what's the point? You accept and believe what LG has posted here...best of luck with that. We'll see what he does when he starts on the rest of the celts as he's said he would do in this thread shall we?
Just asking

Or maybe you are reading into it because it's a 'trigger' for you....

Anyway, about my reading? I could really use it now.

But Jane, his posts have been very informative - who'd have known Wales was infested with vampires, if it wasn't for this thread? Now I know to take extra garlic when I go camping there.

That was a joke. :P

Here's a bit you've overlooked...Gilly wrote:

And you're quite right - I'd be appalled if he posted Terry Wogan doing The Floral Dance. (Joke).

Settle down and stop worrying that readers can't decipher things for themselves. We don't all have to adopt the same style. He's posted nothing offensive, and I find your moaning about it more of a waste of space, and a bit unpleasant for someone who's supposed to be knitting rainbows. :D

Jane

Start a thread of your own then. FFS.

WTF is wrong with people...Its coming to something when people are whining about a thread about wales etc etc etc..
The word Vlach is ultimately of Germanic origin, from the word Walha, "foreigner", "stranger", a name used by ancient Germanic peoples to refer to Romance-speaking and (Romanized) Celtic neighbours. In turn, Walha may have been derived from the name of a Celtic tribe which was known to the Romans as Volcae in the writings of Julius Caesar and to the Greeks as Ouólkai in texts by Strabo and Ptolemy. As such, the term Vlach shares its history with several European ethnic names, including the Welsh and Walloons.

From the Germanic peoples, the term passed to the Slavs and from these in turn to other peoples, such as the Hungarians ("oláh", referring to Vlachs, more specifically Romanians, "olasz", referring to Italians) and Byzantines ("Βλάχοι", "Vláhi"), and was used for all Latin people of the Balkans. The Polish word for "Italian", Włoch (plural Włosi), has the same origin, as does the Slovenian, vaguely derogatory word "lach", also for Italians. The Italian-speaking region lying south of South Tyrol, now part of Italy with the name "Trentino", was known as Welsch tirol in the Austro-Hungarian Empire....

Oggy oggy oggy...
