I did a spell for Subaru and I can tell you once they passed the old 1800 pickup they went backwards very quickly, those imps are awfull and don't last, my freind imports these and breaks them for parts.

The fault on the escorts that created havock was the main charge lead wasn't crimped properly at the factory and shorted out creating spark errosion and then burned through, but when you looked down the lead looked intact, the money loss this created must of cost many millions.

Best motor on the roads today, easy to fix good on fuel with my own gas conversion, Moggy Thou.

As a bit of extra info, I can't boot into safe mode or use the start using the last successful startup configuration either. Same result, it takes me to the recovery process.

At the moment, I've just managed to get it to go into restore mode and it is trying to find out what the issue is. I suspect it's something to do with the battery. It happened once before when Ms dub plugged the charger in. The day it crashed this time, the battery indicator was showing the battery as dead. This has happened before even with the battery fully charged. I may be wrong to draw the connection though.

Have you tried to put the hard drive into another system as a slave drive and take off the data that way, change jumpers and boot from the other drive, that might work.

I have the remote slave USB here actually, PC world have the kit for an external drive, mine was 20 quid.

Good news:
I have taken the hard drive out and fitted the one from Ms dubs old lappy. I am now typing this on MY lappy. It lives again
Bad news:
It's running Vista
As I'm sure Andy already knew, I'll need to buy an adaptor cable to get my data off the removed hard drive

I've followed Mushy's lead gris. If you type SATA and USB into ebay's engine, these enclosures start at about £3
There's lots of them on there
