No worries. I watched a YT vid recently of a guy hanging bracket shelves to drywall and I think he used something similar. He had the whole thing set up to take his stereo/entertainment system, so they can take quite a lot of weight.

He showed what happens when you put the screw in on the reverse of the drywall too. Quite ingenious little gizmos, they are.

here's a pro tip for fastening shit into concrete with regular wood screws. drill a hole, then pound in some wood splints, break em off level with the concrete and then put your screw in.

As a 'plasterer' let me just say....plasterboard is not always used wisely or suitably. Its usefulness is limited & it is often used inappropriately as a cheap labour-saving alternative to quality plastering work.

ALL internal walls were hollow though - I checked. So you had a bedroom wall, and on the other side was a communal stairwell, separated by only a hollow plasterboard. Now, if someone like me or dg came home drunk one night, what's to stop us tripping on those stairs, careening through that wall and ending up next to you in bed? (That'd be my excuse, anyway).

Yeah you're right. modern 'timber framed' construction sees the basic house go up in a day. It's just pre made sections that are bolted together. Then a single masonry skin is built around it. It's cheap, easy and crap. I do not approve.....

In the case of dry-lining, often yes. A proper rendering coat then a skim coat is usually a better option. Costs more tho.

And in ceilings. Ceilings can be created/repaired/replaced by far superior & long-lasting means. but no...builders & contractors bang up plasterboard instead. why? because its cheap(er) and labour saving.

Look what happens to plasterboard when it gets wet. Its completely fucked. & they use it to make the ceiling under your bathroom.. :roll:

It's the hot water tap that's dripping in our bathroom too!

I haven't fixed it yet :emb: I haven't got washers. This house has a couple of screw drivers and that's about it :roll: I think we've got a spanner somewhere.
