I hear what you're saying andy and appreciate that you might feel plagued by them. Whatever you do, you won't get the situation in balance over night if it's as bad as you say. If you go my route, you'll be at it for quite a while. They will keep appearing as if by magic. Eventually though you really can get the wildlife balance to take over the hard work and you'll have to do less and less hunting.

Yeah I'd much rather have a way to repel them from the garden but its a bloody big garden and its near a river and wildlife along with a farmers field and crops out back...

I don't see any way round it other than a bit of an initial cull (lol....)

you could probably pick up 500 in a week mate! put em on t'other side of the river or summat.

Where we used to live there was so many slugs it was unbearable, I never killed any though (couldn't bring myself to do that) just put them outside instead. I saw slugs giving birth on top of kitchen worktops it was so bad The place was damp as hell which didn't help, my bedroom walls were almost black because of the dampness.

Being slightly insomniac at the mo, I just watched that second vid, the old farmer's shed one.
I feel like sticking the woman between two boards and jumping up an down on her......Not my idea about how to approach a garden.
Big thumbs down to her methods and jovial take on slug murder. Also the old egg shell thing. I've tried it, more than once. It's never worked for me and if you have any kind of sized plot, that's a heck of a lot of shells for pretty much no effect on slugs.
Others may disagree but I think it's a bit of a myth from what I've seen.

A recurring theme of my growing related posts some may notice, is that I promote working with nature not against it. Treat the whole as much as is possible and in the long run you'll be glad you did. It takes far more effort in the beginning than the quick fix approach but once the balance is set, your work gets easier and the rewards for all get greater.

You don't need to make the relocation trek every day. You can use a bucket or summat and put them in there. Add a few choice leaves and or veg trimmings, keep it in the shade and they''ll be fine for a couple of days. You do need to be collecting them as much as you can in the early stages though when you first come to an infested plot. When we moved to our last place I was at it about 4 times a day haha. Took a few weeks too

Beneficial Nematodes are the way to go. Having a huge plot with a lot of veg growing we have obvisouly had some problems with slugs, even in one of the smaller polly tunnels. Slugs desimated about 60 chilli seedlings a few months back so I declared war on them as chillis are one of my main cash crops. I bought nematodes online which covered about half an acre and within a week, no more slugs. As the nematodes were a bity pricey I looked at how to breed them and sure enough its actually quite easy:
