Have you ever gone out onto your porch at night to be greeted by literally HUNDREDS of slugs and snails?
Bah, moving to a new house always comes with new problems doesn't it?

These buggers are no concern for veg at the moment but by God you've never seen so many, especially if its at night and its raining, these blighters are well in here. (mostly slugs and only a few snails)

I've made a few lines of salt on the porch which kills a few but they just keep on coming, anyone any better ideas for dealing with the blighters? I'm not French so I'm not eating 'em btw :p

Slugs and snails 'yuck'...so are you all moved in now andy?

I've been packing non stop for the last few days..not fun...and start moving tomorrow. By thursday I should be in my new home.

I'm not an advocate of killing. My tactic is early morning raids. Soon after dawn I get out and pick the buggers up and collect them. I don't touch them with bare hands as I was informed long ago that this is painful to them. I collect them and remove them to the fields. Slugs and snails hide during dry days. With a bit of effort you can find or create hiding places. Then you can often get a few of them with very little hassle by going back daily to their haunts.

Over time, you CAN get on top of it this way. It hurts nothing and I find that managing my plots with such an approach seems to have an overall benefit. Our place here for example is literally teeming with wildlife. Things that many people won't see in a lifetime, we see daily. The critters have also learnt that we aren't a threat to them and seem happy with our company. We have few pest problems as a result.

If the conditions and site is perfect for these critters you might want to look into snail farming where you are, a bussiness opportunity perhaps.

Its not a case of one or two..
They come up the steps at the back from the garden at night and try to work their way into the house.
At night there's somewhere around a hundred slugs approx just on the back porch and steps (more at the front). When day comes they're gone

I used the salt initially to create a border to stop them crossing, didn't work unfortunately they just went around the step and up the walls lol
