Self-sufficiency is the state of not requiring any aid, support, or interaction, for survival; it is therefore a type of personal or collective autonomy. The term self-sufficiency is usually applied to varieties of sustainable living in which nothing is consumed outside of what is produced by the self-sufficient individuals. Examples of attempts at self-sufficiency include simple living, homesteading, off-the-grid, survivalism, DIY ethic and the back-to-the-land movement. Practices that enable or aid self-sufficiency include autonomous building, permaculture, sustainable agriculture, and renewable energy. The term is also applied to limited forms of self-sufficiency, for example growing one's own food or becoming economically independent of state subsidies. Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I'm thinking this would be as good a place as any to talk about exchanging/sharing stuff, as long as the chiefs don't mind?

I'm talking Ebay, with less emphasis on the cash.

Need something? Tell us here.

Have something to donate/sell? Tell us here.

I tried something similar with vintage fabric over on the old site as I was having trouble finding it and affording it and a couple of good souls offered to send me some stuff they had knocking about. One particularly lovely member (who shall remain nameless for fear her ego may inflate further and she won't be able to get through the forum doors) even saw something in a charity shop and thought of me.

You could negotiate prices, or if donating, perhaps have the recipient pay for postage costs.

Maybe you have something you'd be happy to trade with someone else who also has something they want to get rid of.

Perhaps some brief spiel about what you have/are looking for, how much you want/are willing to pay and a rough idea of location and the rest could be done via pm if you're concerned re. privacy.

I don't think we have any axe-murderers here (besides myself) so we should be OK. As ever though, disclosing address and personal details to anyone on the internet is down to your own discretion.

Let's get trading!! :mail:

If people make use of this area, perhaps it could be adapted into a 'section' of it's own, so each item can have it's own thread?

Cool - is it better here or in Projects/Meets/Members Stuff?

If people want this then we can discus it...with the platform we are using we can extend the system in a multitude of ways. We could actually have a dedicated classifieds section where people can manage their listings etc. I don't mean a forum section, I mean a website area in its own right. We would need to research and test the available options before it was introduced. It's definitely something that we can add on their may be some cost involved which we would need to fund.

That's a great idea. Perhaps if anybody is interested in this thread, we could try the forum section first and review if it gets used enough?

Sure it can be done in a thread or section and we can see if people run with it.

The option is there for us to expand on the idea so people could do proper listings and communicate via the system. There could be a book and video exchange or any number of things like our own in house freecycle.

Could be cool just for books and media actually.

We have a new menu item called 'The Zone' that menu options is only available for logged in members. A sub menu of that is called 'Trade Zone' which is the shiny new classified ads area.

This is just a trial so if you would like to post ads in the couple of categories which are there we can talk about how we can implement it fully.

Enjoy

This is a great move. I started something similar on a mk2 site some time ago. Sadly it didn't really catch on. Hopefully this will be more popular.

At the mk2 site we tried to model it on LETS as in once you joined you were given credits which you could then trade with. On the whole those that used it, respected it.

I'm sure I can find some stuff to go up for grabs :D

Anyone fancy a Roland DR202 Groovebox?

Right about before I offer my soul :D

It's my baby. I rebuilt it and am constantly in awe of it!

The one time someone designed and built a real car.......

(That's if you can overlook all the mk2 foibles ;) )

Haha that's a nice little vid. You have to be being really really daft to get the mk2 to lose any grip. I've fettled it to suit Exmoor B roads and it sticks like manure to a front valance. It's crazy really, you can go into literally any corner at any speed and it won't bat an eyelid. Nearly as good as a proper mini :D Did manage to get a little slide going the other day on a very clear sighted corner on the moor but obviously being front wheel drive it's not what you'd call controlled! A sorted mk2 goes grip, grip, kill you really :)

I'd never even heard of D&R tbh :emb:

Yeah, nothing compares to the Xantia as has hydraulic brakes, steering and suspension - hence why it was so smooth and level on that corner.
I know the Golfs grip as was in germany last month and saw one on the autobahn doing what looked like 150+ on a long sweeping bend and it looked glued to the road!
