I consider this a major survival topic and here is a short list of things I keep close,maybe some of you have a few items that you consider absolutely necessary.
Small floor jack
Duct tape and electrical tape
Extra fuses
Two gallons of water
oil,brake fluid,transmission fluid,etc...
breaker bar with socket for tight lug/wheel nuts
spare tire
battery charger
flashlight
tools to many to itemize
gas can
The short list
A newborn puppy has no fear of a tiger.

Good thread, Rick.

I keep a lot of what you listed in my car. I also keep a can of 'fix-a-flat' in the event I get a double flat, and a metal coat hanger. The coat hanger can be used for a variety of things, like holding together a broken exhaust pipe until you get home.

Empty Tin or Metal Coffee can and large candle.

In a situation of extreme cold burning a candle inside a large Metal Coffee can will keepp your car very warm (hot even) for the life of the Candle.

Oh also a little trick, is to keep a regular small brick or two in your trunk,it can be used to elevate your vehicle if it's to low to get a jack under it just by driving on it,and also can be used for safety, to make sure your vehicle won't roll back or forward on a hill

That's a good idea never thought of that,plus may use that idea for regular camping on a chilly night in the tent, while I'm still awake.

What I currently have in my car when I am in the car?
A knife or two, sometimes a bottle of water, lighter and/or matches, smokes and a cooler :D
I am sure there is a spare tire in there somewhere, maybe a jack, but I haven't found it yet :conf:

I keep a mini compressor in my truck that operates off the cigarette lighter, and an impact wrench to break tire nuts that also operates off the cigarette lighter.

I still have the screw bottle jack that came with the truck when I bought it, but have been intending to get a pump jack for some years because they're easier to jack.

EDIT: Recently learned how to use jumper cables on my own this past year. YT taught me how to use battery cables properly after a male co-worker blew up a lady's car battery.

Some things are without gender - you either know or you don't, be you man or woman......and don't assume a male office co-worker knows 'cause it's been my greater experience they don't - just sayin'.

The main belt on most cars looks complicated,but their easier than you think to replace, you can loosen a bolt or two and replace it,and not a real expensive item but if it breaks it shuts you down.
The knowledge of how your belt is installed and the routing of it, and the wrench or socket and pry bar needed to fix it could be a lifesaver and a way simpler road repair than you would think.

Having a spare main drive belt tucked away in your vehicle, is one of the best things you can have.

I always make sure that I carry a little flip out CD holder full of my favourite toons. I'd be off the cliff before I was split from me favourite toons. Perhaps I should go solid state ?

You can use a pair of womens tights/pantyhose as an emergency fix for a broken fan/alternator belt.

Please, please carry a spare and learn to change your tire. It beats sitting on the side of the road listening to filthy expletives shouted at you by passing motorists or some psycho offering help only to duct tape you and throw into his boot to deliver you to tortures until your heart bursts.

Or some wrecker driver happening upon you seeking an opportunity to way overcharge you.

Remember were I'm from. Sure, people seem nice where I now live, but I trust them as far as I can throw them. A sad reality, but true for ladies no matter where they are.

I have 'stuff' such as a tow rope and a triangle and a umm jack thing (lol) but I wouldn't know where the jack point is and don't get me started on those tight nuts
